this isnt anything in the bible that technically says you shall not masturbate, however there is a verse somewhere that does say (in referene to a married man) do not spill your seed on the ground (meaning married men shldnt masturbate)
Oh btw im a 20 yr old male christian, pretty hardcore i guess, and Holliewoods advice was actually very good, bibile says flee temptation and worldy desires so really if u wont to stop its all up to ur self control, also if you do ever slip up with a guy, its much much hard to stop as you know what it feels like lol.
Oh and one more thing, who ever said that god is all love, read ur bible again.. he is merciful, but jealous ;-)

from a ex sexual addict and Christian (which is far worse than what you have).
Drop the feeling/thoughts of guilt, shame, etc. It messes with your cerebral reward system, and focused your thoughts on sex uselessly.
I cured my sexual addiction once I realized it (plus dealing with some other personnal issues), and in a few weeks.
In the Bible, shame and guilt and remorse and fear don't play a great part, it 's faith and love which are important.
You can just stand up after masturbating, and say to yourself 'ok, that was good. but I'm sure there's plenty better things to do out there'
Another tip, turn your sexual pulsions into romantic ones. Both are linked. If there is no romantic outlet, tension expresses itself with sex.

Masturbating is only a problem if it's getting in the way of your personal relationships, or your activities/deadlines/demands/job/school etc... It's funny how much guilt you are supposed to feel over something that, biologically speaking, is actually the ultimate imperative...reproducing. Your body needs to engage in this activity, usually (though not for everybody). However, for obvious reasons, we can't always have sex with whoever we want...for the sake of our relationships, as well as because of the risks of unwanted pregnancy, disease, etc. I would honestly recommend talking to a psychologist, or another type of doctor, considering that science is actually up to date, unlike the Bible, which was written thousands of years ago. I think that the moral lessons in the Bible are still true, but only the ones that actually have a clear reason behind them. For instance, God frowns upon violence because of the harm it does to people, but really, what harm are you doing to yourself or anyone else by masturbating? You're really not doing any harm at all. I know you're religion teaches you otherwise, but the fact is that religion has managed to keep people preoccupied, guilty and shameful by teaching them that their biological impulses (which are perfectly reasonable, universal, and VITAL to our survival) are sinful. Thus, everybody is a real sinner, and constantly needs help from whatever religious institution they belong to. And the cycle of manipulation continues. Don't be a victim to it. Believe whatever you want about God, but for his sake, don't waste your life feeling bad about yourself because of urges that you are SUPPOSED to feel.

I am a Christian and I don't think masturbating is a problem unless you make it a problem. Everybody does it and some find it bad and some find it not.

Masterbation is a sin. You think about a lot of impure thoughts and sexually desire to hit an orgasm. You're leading yourself to go all the way through because, honestly, it is almost a "waste of time" for someone to masterbate and not cum or anything. Well, actually, I guess that depends on you. But masterbation is still a sin and always will be a sin. Anything sexual thought is impure. And God wants you to be pure. Just think Christ-like.
And you're not the only Christian who struggles with this. I tend to fall down because I let my flesh my control myself. I pray and literally say "no" outloud whenever I'm alone or in the shower. Its hard, I know. But anything is possible when you have God. Just let God stay within your thoughts rather than flesh desires. God will always forgive you. Just be willing with a genuine repentance. I'm walking through myself and talking about it with someone helps me :-)

This is a huge huge issue, but really simple at the same time. I'm 23 and I committed my life to Christ just a few years ago, and really dug into theology and studying everything about it. However, when I came to Christ I had a lot of baggage. I've done a lot of bad things in my life before hand and addicted to things like porn and sex too. This caused me to hurt and feel so guilty about what I've done and continued to do. Moving forward, I tried going cold turkey and just stopping (cause you know it sounds so easy)...but that was a huge failure. Tried covering it up...nope didn't work just more guilt. Then I came across something interesting through the book of Galatians. If you haven't read it please do it's fantastic.
The whole book is about how Paul set up a church there, preaching the Gospel, but after he left false apostles came in and started preaching a false Gospel. Now we, as Christians, know that God sent his only Son down to us. To live among us, grow, and then ultimately die for our sins. To be the sacrifice for everyones sins. Raising three days later to fulfill and complete the prophecies. This is what was preached first. Then these people came in and started preaching that the Law is the most important (think Jewish religion). That it is the Law that justifies man. This is dead wrong. And this is not too different than what we hear today, especially through the Catholic church. If an act can justify men before God, then what was the point of Jesus being hung on the cross? If the Law justifies, then how then can no one live up to the standards? Because it doesn't! We need something bigger than that. We need something bigger than sin. This is why God sent Jesus to us. Jesus is the one who washes you clean and justifies you. Belief in him will result in the forgiveness of sins. The only thing that belief in the Law will bring is guilt, depression, and a feeling of being separated from God.
Now, does this mean that the Law is useless? By no means! The Law is merely a mirror to show us our depravity. It belongs in the realm of our daily life. It is supposed to guide us to righteous living. How we should conduct ourselves before we sin. While going through daily life if you're not sure if something is right or wrong, or need to hear it again then consult the law. If you do sin against the Law and God, do not let it seep into your conscience. The Law does not belong there. If your actions causes a heavy weight on your heart, then it is doing its job as sin by separating you and God further and further apart. This is where you need to remember the Gospel and what God and Jesus has done for us. The Grace and Peace that has been set before us as a free gift to everyone.
This does not mean that you can go around doing whatever you want because of a free conscience. You still have to show self control and righteous living. We have to strive to be more and more to be like Jesus everyday. As for me after learning this. I felt so free. So free that it actually pushes me to be better and to do the right thing. I can't say that I'm perfect though. I went from masturbating to porn a couple of times a day to just a few times a month. Now I'm in a relationship that is free of carnal acts. Huge steps in the right direction.
Back to what I meant in the opening. This seems so big, so deep, and so dark that there is no way out. It just seems huge, but when you can really grasp what the purpose of the Law is and really grasp Grace from God, this is so simple. I do still let sin creep in sometimes, so even I do not have a perfect grasp on all of this, but it has helped a ton.
Have Hope! Hope that there is a way out. Hope in Jesus and his forgiveness of your sins. Because if you don't have hope than you have nothing.. Someone loves you and is willing to help. Share your burdens. More importantly God loves you and is willing to work with you on this.
Much Love,
Sean

What nonsense people talk! A girl has every right to pleasure herself. If you want to masturbate a dozen times a day that's fine - get your legs open and give yourself a thorough seeing to. A girl grunting with pleasure and wet with lust - beautiful!

I feel the same way. I'm 15, and I have engaged in sexual activity, like oral sex and mutual masturbation. I also do masterbate. I do all of that so I don't get tempted to have sex, I plan completely to wait until marriage. No doubt about it. But could it be considered a substitution for those sexual desires as to where, it is not specified in the Bible not to engage in oral sex or masturbation, but it clearly stated premarital sex. I don't know what to do, my boyfriend and I both feel this way :/

I am stuck in the same dark place, 14 and a girl, dont get me wrong I love the lord, but masturbation is so pleasuring. It's not even like i don't know how to stop. I have asked the Lord to forgive me , but I've done it so many times now, I can;t even hear its voice. It's scary, and I need to stop. I can't even cry. And i know that my guilt will slip away slowly if ~I don't stop. So i have decided to say this anytime I feel the urge. " I denounce the spirit of lust in Jesus' name, and I replace it with the Holy Spirit to purify my thoughts. Shout it out as loud as you can. No seriously it works. Because lust is a demon. :'(
Pray for me please :(

I'm a Christian girl as well but never really knew Jesus. Before I got saved I was also addicted to watching porn and masturbating. Even though I wasn't saved and didn't know Jesus, I knew it was wrong cuz I would feel horrible after I got done with what I did. I tried to quit doing it, and a few times I managed to quit for several weeks but I would get right back on the same path shortly after that. It is a sin because God made sex so that you and your future husband could enjoy it and also for reproducing ofcourse. With masturbation, we think of our own pleasures and this can eventually hurt your relationships as you will tend to become more selfish. It's also considered to be youthful pleasures, and God wants us to flee from this. I understand where you are coming from, at one point in life I wasn't able to quit and became depressed and felt lonely. But when I gave my life to Jesus, I found true happiness and realized that I was really using porn and masturbation to fill up this emptyness inside me. I can tell you from personal experience that only Jesus can help you. I've tried everything you can mention to quit doing what I was doing but as soon as I gave my life and got to know Jesus I quit. I've been saved for more than 1 year now and I will admit that it was hard in the beginning but I don't think about it anymore and don't understand what I was thinking. I look back at it and feel sick thinking I used to do that stuff. Satan is real and will do anything he can to prevent people from making it to Heaven. There are many Christians struggling with certain sins, and lust is a very powerful thing, but you can overcome it thought Jesus Christ whom strenghtens you. Through Him I overcame my lustproblem. If I can do it, so can you. Just give it all to Him, and He will give you the strenght.

This is excellent example of why all religion is discussing. Try to break free of your brain washing and remember there is no God there is no hell so fear of these things is irrational. Its a shame that in this day in age people are still controlled by fear. Without the idea of God polluting your mind you will have a much happier life. It will also allow you to explore the world properly and gain the intelligence to reason which will enhance your life massively. Good luck. I truly hope all of you religious people will one day be free from your various cults and beliefs.
