Is masturbating being sexually active?

Hey guys, it's me again. I was just wondering, would masturbating be considered as being sexually active? Because I've really been thinking about getting a purity ring (a ring worn that reminds you of your promise to yourself and God that you will stay pure [a.k.a. a virgin]). And I don't wanna break the rules. Thanks.

I think being sexually active means with other people, not just yourself. So I think you are ok.

NO masturbating is not being sexually active, it is a starting block to become sexual active. the meaning to sexual active is to have a male penis ENTER into a female vagina, then at this point both of you are also not a virgin any more!!!!
so keep the hand moviing, and you will not get any STD.

If your getting a purity ring..... you are promising " god" yourself and others that you will be living a pure life .. I'm guessing you are a person with religious beliefs... so therefore in your case masturbation in itself is not wrong its your body but the fact that you are lusting over someone or something IS wrong and completely defeats the purpose of your ring ... so really as it says in the bible that thinking of women in a lustful manner, to God IT'S the same as comitting adultery.... so honestly if you are going to wear your " purity ring" to stay pure , and you plan to continue masturbating, you might as well just have sex with the next woman you see. ;-)

That's not entirely true. I agree that masturbating is not an action of being sexually active. But I believe that straight and gay people become sexually active when the man puts his penis in another man's/woman's anus.

No, you're not being sexually active unless you're doing it with someone else. But to get a purity ring means not doing ANYTHING, including masturbating.

This is a conscience decision you are going to have to make for yourself. Personally I do not consider it as being sexually active. If God sends people to hell for masturbating heaven is probably pretty empty.

Actually, being sexually active entails oral sex, mutual masturbation, and a majority of the other things done to you by another person, masturbation is not being sexually active, however. Also, if you are going along the lines of "being pure" as being a virgin, you aren't a virgin if you have masturbated for someone else, or have given or received oral sex, so is some false information there, also, anboy808, you shouldn't let your religion be the reason you want to be abstinent, and masturbation is also wrong in the eyes of the lord.
