Hi All,
I have a UPPP surgery with palatal expansion and partial uvulectomy in 2018. It helped not choke myself while sleeping. The throat clicking started last year.
I have a clicking in my throat when I lay down on the right or left side or face up. There is no specific pattern of clicking. It comes either in between inhaling, when there is no air flow, or during inhaling or exhaling. It is totally unpredictable. It might not click for a few minutes. It seems clicking is coming from where the nasal airway passes a soft palate. It’s definitely not from my longs. Clicking goes in my inner years. I can clearly hear a sharp nasty clicking which prevents me from falling asleep.
There is no clicking when standing, only when lying down horizontally. Tilting my head up does not help. I have tried a saline nasal mist, but it did not help. I have recently done a sleep study on my doctor's advice. The neurologist briefly mentioned that because of mucus it sends something to my inner year. No further explanation. I'm suffering from lack of sleep. Please be kind enough to give me advice. Thanks in advance.

From what I saw in the past few years, your case sounds like obstructive sleep apnea. You sure your doctor didn't mention this to you? Do you have any fatigue during the day? Or dry/sore mouth? Those are the symptoms of OSA as well.
I presume you don't have any more respiratory diseases, like asthma or something similar?
A continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine is the most common and most reliable method for treating it. The CPAP machine pushes a steady stream of air through a mask that you wear while you sleep. It keeps your airway open.
But, before using it, contact your doctor first.

Thank you for the reply. I had a sleep study last month. The interpretation is not available until I see my doctor in Feb. 2022. The earlier UPPP surgery seems to have helped with an airway obstruction. The clicking starts when I'm not sleeping so there is no effect of OSA. It is BEFORE and/or while ATTEMPTING TO FALL ASLEEP. It starts at any time I lay horizontally, face up or on either side. Clicking goes into my inner ear. I can clearly hear a sharp interval or sequence of clicking. Mostly, clicking starts during inhaling when air is passing through the airway blocked/filled with some sort of mucus or fluid. it might happen at any time while I'm in a horizontal position (not sleeping), not while standing or sitting. I was trying to spray a Simply Saline Nasal Mist, Arfin and Flonase-nothing helps. Needless to say that I feel sick after sleepless nights. It's happening every night.
