Hello there,
Well first of all, just until recently cns vasculitis was a fatal condition. The death rate was very high and it was coming shortly after diagnosis has been made. But this has changed a little bit because of the immunosuppressive therapy. This therapy has significantly improved the prognosis for people with this condition.
In most of the cases a reasonable approach is to attempt to control the disease with high doses of steroids first. Therapy with steroids goes for one month. After this adding cyclophosphamide is necessary but only if steroids fail or if patients begin to develop unacceptable side effects of steroid treatment.
I hope this was helpful and that you have satisfied your curiosity.
