common iliac lymph nodes

I would like to know why common iliac lymph nodes are important in diagnosis. Where do they drain lymph from? My friend has some uncertain abdominal pain and her doctor wants to order CT, so he could “look better on those lymph nodes.” I would like to have more info on this.
