Just got out of E. R. Was chewing on coriander seeds , had soy on dry oats, put sage on carrots. Felt extreme nausrs dizziness. Throat started swelling, took 2 zyrtec. Hours later dizzy pain in throat. Took antibiotic. Drank chamomile tea. Hours later St midnite can't swallow. Couldn't find anyone after midnite on Fri. To drive me . called ambulance. Couldn't find me, chasrd them down. Waited hours in the E. R. For steroid shot. Felt like jail. Screaming for water, or aspirin to take pain in throat away. No one heard me. Had epipen. Did not want to use. Dec. 22 was in E.R. after using pen. Went in to cold convulsions. Would you want that ? Slow torturous process of uvula swelling is what I deal with almost monthly.

I am dangerously allergic to cilantro. I actually had to bite open Benadryl tonight and swallow the powder because the restaurant i went to garnished (sprinkled throughout the dish ) with cilantro instead of parsley.

My allergy didn't present itself until i was in my late teens / early twenties. It started out with a rash mostly on my neck and chest, then slowly made it hard to swallow, and tongue, lips, and throat would end up super swollen. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are all symptoms for me too. The reaction also started out only if i ingested it. Now if i am in the room with it i have a reaction. If someone touches it, then touches me i have a reaction. If my husband were to eat it, then kisses me, i have a reaction.

Not fun at all.

I say burn it all.

First mention of headaches that I have seen. I don't have a severe reaction like hives or nausea or vomiting but I do get headaches. I wanted to buy parsley and mistakenly bought cilantro. Every time I opened the refrigerator door I got a whiff of the cilantro and immediately the beginning of a headache, getting headaches is not a common thing for me. I didn't know what it was until I pulled everything out and when I handled and smelled the Cilantro the headache started again. One time we went out to a Mexican restaurant, I did not know Cilantro is so popular in Mexican cooking, as soon as the dish was put in front of me I could smell the cilantro and I could feel a head ache starting, it was as if a switch was triggered. I avoided it, picking it out of my food and pushing it aside, I ate part of my plate and did not feel and further symptoms.. I'm not sure if I have ever ingested coriander. The headaches go away as soon as I don't smell it anymore.

Hi I'm Roxie in Seattle... I found myself allergic to Garlc & Cilentro. It starts with a different type of pain like no other! If you've ever had a bad ulcer it's almost that sort of pain but the problem is the pain gets worse and worse and your stomach swells with gases and compresses your lungs until you can't breathe. Being that I'm allergic to garlic I thought I would find myself a new herb to put on my tofu and such and I had another severe attack while I was home alone, so I Googled it to find out it was ground seeds of cilantro called coriander. I didn't know what was going on when I started having the attack last night! I thought I had ulcer until the pain got severe and I couldn't breathe, the only thing I found that has ever worked for me is ultra strength Gas-X in mass amounts! The doctors are never been able to diagnose me due to the fact that my attacks are gone by time I get to the doctor's... it's not like it's going to wait around for an appointment! Had to figure it out on my own. It could be that I have an ulcer from stress I've been going through...which could be making it go into my bloodstream faster. I'm amazed the attacks haven't killed me! I've had many close calls.I find I have to cook for myself or risk attacks! Due to the severity of the attacks and how extremely painful they are, I find it safer to cook for myself. I found out the cilantro attacks are more severe than garlic attacks. Wish you all the best! Much respect to you all! By the way...I carry ultra Gas-X with me at all times and keep it by my bed cause I have been awakened from my sleep in a full on attacks. Keep it by your side like your life depends on it because I find it does.

I have a reaction to cilantro but it's very mild, mainly that it tastes like soap!!!

When I eat Cilantro (which I try to avoid like the plague) it makes my tongue feel numb and the soapy-perfume taste goes straight up my sinus' and it gives me an instant migraine. Every where I go I carry migraine medicine with me even though at restaurants I always have the waiter/waitress mark on the order that I am allergic to cilantro. All I need is a piece of a leaf and I am sick for hours with a nauseating debilitating headache. I have no idea why this herb seems to make it in so many dishes since most people I meet either hate it or could take it or leave it. I have yet to meet anyone who says they love cilantro, or the flavor makes the dish.

ginger136197040.......I also get severe diarrhea after eating foods with cilantro in them. And the problem is I love cilantro in Mexican foods. But I have narrowed it down over the years and Cilantro is the culprit.

I've had cilantro on three occasions. The first time I felt like I had the stomach bug, but didn't vomit. The second time I had gut wrenching pain and felt the urge to vomit. Being that I'm one of the lucky ones who think it tastes a bit tinny (which grosses me out) I will spit it out if I encounter it in something I eat to avoid feeling sick. The third time was recent (it was in a Duncan donut wrap) and I was so hungry that I ate it anyway. The pain in my abdomen as well as the burning in my intestines was intense. I felt like I had an extreme version of the stomach bug. After vomiting, my stomach was fine, but had the sharts for 12 hours. Each time I've eaten it, the reaction has been worse.

I have this same reaction, face is hot and heart palpitations, feels like almost pass out. Seems like most reactions are nausea/vomiting/upset stomach. Mine is quite frightening, I wonder if I should get an epi pen?

About two years ago I suddenly started getting very bad reactions after spicy Indian or Mexican food. I have never liked coriander the taste is horrible. But in the last two yeardays I gradually found that fresh coriander leaf was the problem.
Anything which contains the leaf sets me off. Upset tummy. Bad gas. Sore throat and runny nose.
As time has passed the reactions are getting worse. If I have a single leaf I am on the toilet for hours. The last time I was ill for two days. It seems I am also now suffering from some hayfever as well which I have never had before. Each reaction seems worse. But if I keep off spicy food I'm fit as a fiddle.

I have an issue with cilantro that I just recently found out what it was. It causes me food poisoning type reaction. Massive bloating in my stomach region, gas, extremely painful, I feel nauseous...like I'm going to puke or have massive diarrhea. I almost ALWAYS get diarrhea and it's for hours....like 6 or 7 hours of just unbelievable pain in my abdominal area. I literally look 9 months pregnant as the gas is so bad that fills up and I didn't know what it was. I had Chipolte and thought it was food poisoning....with all the food / ingredients that they have it was hard to find out what it was. Ultimately I had a frozen meal at work that did that to me and it was by EVOL (street taco's) and had myself tested for 4 things and low and behold found out it was cilantro. Be careful, my symptoms are painful and annoying but not like some of the others I have read here.

I to am allergic to cilantro. I discovered it when I was 18. At first it just started out with a burning in my mouth and hives. Now at almost 40 I can't even go into a Mexican food restaurant because the smell of it has me in hives. The other day while I was at the grocery store 1 had started to have an anaphylaxis reaction when I was walking down the produce aisle since I wasn't aware that I was standing next to the cilantro. Tell your brother to be really careful since more people are cooking with cilantro these days.

I also think I have a cilantro allergy, reading what most of you have said.... I don't get the headaches, diarrhea, vomit or soap taste but my throat closes up and my eyes start to itch and was even swollen shut... My ex-wife (maybe that's the problem) cooked an awesome Mexican meal but as I left, I could hardly see or breathe... came home and chewed 2 tablets of dephrenhydramine-- I think that if I get through the first hour of the reaction, I am okay... having said that, maybe its time for an epi-pen...
