Good advice. My daughter's allergist told us to use Zyrtec as she is really sensitive the effects of Benadryl.

I have had a burning sensation during defecation which I found was related to too high oxalate consumption. This can be helped by the citrate in lemons.

Me, too - stomach pains then diarrhea... except my timeline is more like 25 minutes. I don't like the taste or smell of cilantro and can't be in a room where it is being chopped. Here's an LOL - thought that next time I have a colonoscopy I would prep by eating cilantro! Cleans my clock out!

I found that I have an allergy to cilantro. My symptoms are severe indigestion and heartburn. I noticed when eliminating ingredients from a guacamole recipie that gave me these symptoms.

I'm pretty sure I've developed an allergy to cilantro also. My symptoms are quite similar to yours in that I have no hives, mouth or throat swelling. I do have abdominal cramps & also the symptoms occur around 12 hours after ingesting cilantro. I have had 3 very violent reactions consisting of severe vomiting & diarrhea & total body sweating that can last anywhere from 1-3 hours. Each subsequent bout w/this has left me wiped out completely, & has lasted longer each time, the last being 2 1/2 days. I've sworn off all Southwest & Mexican dishes from now on. I only sip water & ginger ale for 24 hours after the vomiting & diarrhea have stopped.

This is an excellent idea for a prep for colonoscopy, but it leaves me so debillitated it wouldn't be worth it!!

This sounds so like my reactions to eating Southwest or Mexican dishes w/cilantro in them. See my reply below.

I have an allergy (or intolerance?) to cilantro. It took me ages to work out what it was because whenever I went to a restaurant I typically would drink more than usual and I associated my symptoms with having over indulged on rich food and too much wine (often mixing white and red). My symptoms are feeling very nauseous and bad diorreha, starting about an hour after ingestion and lasting 3-4 hours. I now avoid I think at all costs, but on the odd occasion I've had it I do notice fresh cilantro is much worse for me than ground/dried.

I have read that many of you are still eating cilantro even though you have mild allergic symptoms. Please stop! I used to just think it tasted funny, then my tongue got tingly when I ate then, later I was clearing my throat and my voice got hoarse sounding. Now, my voice disappears as my throat closes. Continuing to eat cilantro can cause your reactions to become worse. Mine is supposedly caused by a birch allergy, but it is no laughing matter when you can't ask for help because you have no voice. I just know not to panic, and carry Benadryl that dissoves on my tongue and an epi pen.

My cilantro allergy is also severe. It takes about an hour to feel my abdomen start to swell. Severe stomach cramps. Sometimes vomiting and diarrhea but not always. Extremely hot! Lightheaded. Confusion. Then I loose consciousness. All this within 2 hours of injestion. If I catch it in time I can take bynydryl and lessen the symptoms but not by much. I’ve never felt tingling in my mouth or throat, and cilantro doesn’t taste bad to me. And cilantro is my only food allergy... no other!!! The worst part is that companies do not have to label it as cilantro or coriander, only spices. And not all that are labeled spices contains cilantro or coriander. My dream is for it to be required to be put on the label of any food it is in. I mean it can kill me!!!! And probably will because it’s in everything from lasagna to cheeseburgers. I mean I know to avoid toco Tuesday... but lasagna!! Come on!!! And when you ask at most restaurants they look at you like your just being picky and sometimes bring food that has it in it anyway. Good luck to you.

Me too. Had some salsa with chips. Tasted something weird (don't like cilantro)--it was on ingredients. That was this morning. It is now almost 6pm and my nose is still running like crazy. You are not alone.

Headaches/migraines, drowsiness and nausea are signs of coriander leaf allergy.

I also am severely allergic to cilantro: hives, swelling face, eyes and tongue. I have ended up in the hospital. When I ask the contents, most of the time they do not know and think I just do not like it. There needs to be more awareness of ALL food allergies NOT just nuts!
