Hi guys! I just wanted to mention that sometimes our bodies produce too much yeast from the foods we eat and because of taking too many antibiotics. Yeast affects all your body systems. So maybe look into doing a candida cleanse and see if this helps.

Just wanted to give an update on my current experiment with Avelox 400mg..I'm on the 8th pill, and my throat seems to produce much less, and instead of having to clear it out by coughing it out every 15 minutes, it's now down to every 2.5 to 3 hours or so. This is a great improvement, although it's not completely gone. I still have 6 more pills left though, so I'm hoping they'll finish off whatever is causing this. I'm only taking one pill a day, which maybe is not enough to fight this sinus infection, but I hope it is. It's definitely much better than before. Hopefully when I stop taking the antibiotic it won't go back to the way it was.

I too have had this problem since August of last year. No answer yet. I have been to ENT, allegist, pulmonoligist, internist and gastroentesinal dr.

I have read hundreds of posts regarding this problem and no body has ever found an answer. Ridiculous!!! I wonder if people just don't post their diagnoses and treatment since they are no longer suffering.

Help!!! Anyone out there with the answers.

I have this problem too. I got it following a virus which came on my birthday and made me very ill, almost as bad as the flu or pneumonia (I know because I have endured both in the past.) This illness, however, left the lingering mucus problem which never goes away. It spurred on this constant mucus production which is so difficult because I work two jobs, and I'm sure it is most bothersome to all of my coworkers (plus to customers as well, as my second job is a retail position). I am going to try the Neti Pot next, following the conversation stream above, because my mother saw that Oprah programmed to which someone referred, and tells me the people who promoted it swore that it had worked wonders. I am just so tired and drained. This constant draining is scary; and I get so worn out from trying to take unobstructed breaths - it's not like asthma, just like a film of mucus needing to be breathed through - and when I read that the drainage to the lungs caused someone to develop emphysema, I became very scaled.

Hi, just wanted to give yet another update to my experience with Avelox. I've taken 14 pills, the last one was like 3 days ago. The problem has not completely gone away, however, it's improved 100%. I don't feel the need to clear my throat of mucus every 15 minutes or so, as was before...it's more like every 2 or 3 hours....it's drainning down my throat a lot less than before.....I'm still not sure what was/is causing it. I'm beginning to think that maybe I'm allergic to the carpet, as I am allergic to mites..I'm moving next week to a place without carpets, so I guess I will have to see then if there's even more improvement. As I said before, the problem started when I came back from an overseas trip, and caught a bad cold, but at the same time moved to an apartment with carpets. So I'm not sure if the carpets had something to do with it, but I have a feeling that they did.

I have been told the same thing. I have had dogs all my life and they are telling me that the cause of my mucus in my throat is allergies to dogs. I adore my dogs, so I won't be finding out the truth for awhile. In the mean time, any suggestions on what to do??

I am studying to become a surgical nurse. However this caught my attention. How are your eating habits? Mucus is also there to cover your throats from the types of foods you eat.

If you do not have problems while sleeping then this might be the reason, as you do not eat while you sleep. So do you drink coffee? Tea? Spicy foods? Try to change what you eat and see if that doesn't help.

I have excess thick mucous always going down the back of my throat. Not 100% of the time but close for several years. I was told I had Hashimoto's in April 06, I know my thyroid has been a problem since at least 2004. My TSH has been up & down for a few years but has been between .61 - 2.03 the past two years. I am really sensitive to my TSH, I can tell when it is below 1 or above 2.
In Nov. I was told I don't have Hashi's, all thyroid tests are normal (TSH .66). ?? I thought once you always had it you have it even if antibodies disappear. ??
Anyway, I have always had sinus problems but it has just been this bad since my thyroid went out - coincidence? I have problems mainly with the right side. I have a large nose, you would think I could at least breathe OK but no. There is a mild deviation (septum) on the right - to me it looks to be barely open. I always feel like I can barely breathe from that side. My nose is always stuffed up on that side, I have ear problems on that side. When I get drainage I get a tickle from my right ear to my throat.
An ENT said maybe I have acid reflux which can affect the sinuses. I did try Nexium for a month and didn't notice a huge improvement. I have had acid reflux symptoms but continue to drink pop and eat bad things like chocolate and cheese :c( I get stomach and chest pain really bad.
I have tried a neti pot and similar things - sometimes I get relief for half a minute - WOW I CAN BREATHE FOR ONCE!!!! :-D - but then the blocked feeling always returns quickly. I have tried different Rx sprays, pills, etc. I recently tried generic mucuous relief pills and felt relief for a few hours so I think I'll get those out again.
I have spent WAY too much $ on doctors the past few years re my thyroid and sinuses. For now I'm working on sticking to a healthier diet, cutting out caffeine, yeast, flour, sugar, etc. I have been eating mainly bread products for a while and my postnasal drip has been worse, thick and constant, so maybe there's a link. I also plan to do a nasal rinse daily and continue to sleep with my upper body elevated.
Trying to remain stress-free is hard but working on that hoping I can keep my thyroid levels level and hormones balanced (they're a little off too, probably not helped by all the flour and sugar I've been bogging down my body with tsk tsk).

I would stay away from bread. Take a piece of white bread and rip off the crust *don't use an end piece*. Now roll the leftovers into a ball, it will turn back into dough. This is what you are consuming every time you eat under cooked bread. I suggest toasting it or switch to a healthier bread.

meh its not thick its excess mucus

I'm personally convinced I finally discovered what the hell it is that's been annoying the sh*t out of me since I was 8 I haven't gone to a doctor yet though... why? Well because I started smoking a year ago, and hes probably just going to tell me I have Emphysema (cant spell that for the life of me) Ive had these problems since I was 8, and they only got worse after like half a year of smoking (noticeably worse at least getting worse faster, but I think it has been getting worse since I was 8)

I just wish I knew earlier now...

Well here I am nearly two years later with the same dang mucus in my throat. Doctors refuse to help at all at this point, so I've been trying to deal with it on my own. I still have no answers to this, has anybody else gotten an answer?? I think I have some sort of sinus blockage, and it will remain blocked until someone helps me with it. I"ve also thought about middle ear infection being the problem, anybody else think so??

Chapter one. Two years ago ears filled with fluid I coudn't get rid of and was prescribed otc nasal sprays and antiobiotics. It didn't work very long and sloshing ear fluid would come and go for days.
Chapter two. About a year ago woke up exhausted on account of constant rushing sound in right ear. This went on for about four days in which time I took liquid magnesium to make me sleep better and tried popping, pulling, and yawning face grimacing and neti washing to no avail. This is when I found a website for upside down nasal flushing with a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide, salt, and soda. That seemed to work pretty well and I was finally able to get some sleep. This reprieve lasted for about three months.
Chapter three. After seeing my doctor [many others as well], he said I probably wouldn't be getting rid of it because of there was also ringing that went with it. [the worst was when my heartbeat would pulse on that side of my head when I was trying to sleep.]. He used a pump with a long tube and whooshed that in my outer right ear and it worked for several weeks along with usual prescriptions. After that I started trying to do what he did with an empty nasal spray bottle. I think he repressurized my ear somehow. Got online and found the ear-popper.
Chapter four. Started noticing a thick sticky mucous in my throat and back nasals that just wouldn't go away. This made me feel almost sick and my ear would also really plug up. Treated with Biactin and it helped but goo came back a week later. I have now resorted to neti with warm water, standing with head BACK....not to the side. Did it this morning and snuffled to pull it down the middle of my throat and then slowly let it ooze out mouth like a thick clear glob.[made me think of expelling a jelly fish!].
but it worked.
This is what's working for me. That neti wash I just explained. I also sip 1 T. of Apple cider vinegar with 1/2 cup water. twice a day to cut the goo in my throat. [figured out that was why pills were getting stuck in throat and no amount of water pushed it down.] And I just got real desperate and shelled out $200. for the Ear Popper up at London Drugs. Before that used an empty nasal spray bottle, holding it to one nostril while plugging the other, taking deep breath, and swallowing and squeezing the air out of the spray bottle. That has worked so far but sometimes I think this gluey goo is intuitive and just seems to be getting thicker. Will post whether this popper works or not. Hope this helps.
