The sweet taste in your mouth is caused by Aspartame or some sweetners. Almost all products have aspartame in them.
I noticed that if I have an diet cool drink - after about 30mins I get this metallic almost ( toothpaste like ) irratable sweet taste on my tongue. Its can last for a while. Even after rinsing and gargling its still there - almost like the saliva glands are secreting it.
After careful elimination - I've have come to discover that its the aspartame that causes it.

I had this and figured it out finally. Four weeks ago a ran out of hair gell and decided to use aloe-vera as a fill in. It works great. The brand I was using was an "after burn lotion" but mostly aloe based. Stopped using it and the taste went away in three days.

Just to follow up on that. It was a very sweet, acidic taste in my mouth. I thought my mouth was rotting. Especially around the teeth. I flossed, Listerined, Bleached, you name it I tried it. Nothing would get rid of it. The skin is the biggest organ we have and can absorb things transdermaly (though the skin, like nicotine). I first noticed this years ago as a mechanic apprentice. As soon as I touch gear oil (80/90 weight) everything tasted bad. I would get it in my system through the skin. Check out any soaps, lotions, shampoos, and hair products you may be using and see if your tastes go with when you started using them. That was it for me.

Have any of you considered formaldehyede exposure? I am having a terrible lingering sweet taste especially if I eat sweet things - but I definitely never eat artificial sweeteners. Apparently aspartame which leaves an aftertaste turns into formaldehyde in your system as well, but if you have some new furniture, fabrics, mattress, and you may be getting exposed in other ways. I have had this before when I decorated several rooms at once and two of the (expensive) pieces of upholstered furniture that I purchased were laced with formaldehyde. My dog who was most exposed because he was confined to the kitchen area got really sick and had 7X the normal liver enzymes. I got nauseated and had immediate pain in my sinuses every time I went near it. Eventually the sweet taste went away but now it is back, again, this time in conjunction with new furniture and a memory foam mattress pad...
I recently got new furniture (made in China, of course). I bought a memory foam topper to try to make the mattress more comfortable because I have bursitis. I got very sick and thought I had the flu. But over time, I noticed that if I went away from it I got better and when I spent time in my bedroom I immediately felt sick again. I also noticed that I seem to dread going to bed at night. I find myself standing next to the bed and not looking forward to getting in. I wake up with a cough by 5 am every morning (enough exposure to sicken me all over again). I removed the mattress pad within a couple of days of getting sick but the furniture itself has a strong "new furniture" smell and after 3 weeks I am still stick. I now know it is not a virus. The furniture is not made of solid wood but of laminates which means it probably contains a good amount of formaldehyde in the glues used to make the boards. I hope that you feel better soon.

I have been avoiding eating anything with any kind of sugar and have found that I have a sweet sugary taste on my lips 8-12 hours after eating anything with sugar in it.....and I mean even the dextrose, sucrose, frutose, etc; but mostly sugar. I feel it is probably some symptom or warning of diabetes. To give a little background..7 years ago my sister called me and told me she had celiacs disease and warned me of the possiblity of my having it. I thought back to a time when I lost a lot of weight and felt great........I had eaten no sugar, and little white flour.......I thought yeah thats my problem the flour......BUT the connection of the flour causing sugar problems didn't seem to occur to me, until recently when a light bulb went off in my head. often people who have celiac disease have siblings who have diabetes, or even cancer. I made the connection of the flour (Gluten) the culprit in the body not being able to process sugar. So I did two things about a month or so ago I stopped eating sugar and white flour(gluten). I am losing weight like crazy and not even exercising. Even though for the last 4 years I have avoided eating white flour I had not given up sugar........Sugar is the big problem. So now I read every label to avoid all sugar..it is tough and I end up eating some sugar sometime.it is unavoidable when going out; and I can't say no to my granddaughters when they bake me some cookies with their mother, or when their is a birthday....but all in all I can avoid a lot of sugar. Let me tell you the connection between white flour making it hard for the body to process foods.because of celiacs disease means the body can't process sugar, and the sugar turns into fat, and your body is one big lump of fat.......even if you think you are eating right......you are probably not. Like I was for many years here. If you gain weight, or can not lose weight even though you are eating what you think is a healthy diet.......THINK AGAIN!!!.....your body maybe telling you something.......like I am having a problem here..........I can't process the foods I am getting. We people have to get smart........SUGAR even the hidden sugar is killing us all! I am not saying do totally with out....but man cut out most of it.cut out 80% and see what happens. Doctors will say oh you have diabetes and have to have this and that (SOLD BY DRUG COMPANIES).....BUT before it gets to us all needing insulin............LOOK AT THE LABELS OF THE STUFF YOU EAT AND AVOID ALL SUGAR. Remember Doctors are only in business when we are sick.and drug companies make money off of the sick.....THINK ABOUT THAT.THINK VERY CAREFULLY..WHO STANDS TO GAIN FROM YOU OR I GETTING SICK? BIG BUSINESS does. We have to GET SMART and TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES.

I eat well ( I do not eat White Flour Products) I eat rice Products.Rice Bread, etc. and drink a lot of water....no soda etc. I am just cutting out sugar but when I do eat it I get that sugary taste on my lips 8-12 hours after eating it. I believe we can all eat better and live healthier lives if we cut out sugar and in some cases like mine White Flour. Good day to you all, and good health.

Check for sucralose/Splenda. I think I finally figured out that this is the catalyst for the nasty sweet taste in my mouth. I've been drinking KoolAid Singles and just noticed it has sucralose in it. I had run out several weeks ago and didn't buy more till yesterday. The sweet taste had gone away and now that I drank 2 glasses of the KoolAid last night, I woke up with the nasty taste again.

did you eliminate all natural sugar too? I know I feel better without flour and I'm mainly eating natural sugar, but I have splurged on candy as well. I'm looking forward to no flour and no white sugar to see if that helps in a lot of issues - from weight to fatigue. It doesn't say when you did this post but I hope you are still watching and can respond.

low carb diets cause ketones to be released in the body, (but they usually are just excreted in the urine).
