I can't believe the lack of nutritional awareness on this board. As a nutritionist, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. To say that diet doesn't affect skin health is beyond ludicrous. Diet and nutrition affects EVERY aspect of one's health, and the skin is absolutely no exception.  If your dermatologist tells you food has nothing to do with acne, find a different one because they're obviously just a tool of the pharmaceutical industry and incapable of thinking beyond the allopathic model of medicine(i.e. treating symptoms, not the person).  I've had gastroenterologists tell me that inflammatory bowel disease has nothing to do with what I eat either.  Really? The food I'm putting into my digestive system doesn't have any affect on my digestive health? That's convenient, I guess I'll pop your drugs, eat whatever I want and not worry. But explain to me why my health turned around when I began eating healthy?  If I'd believed everything doctors had to say, I'd still be stuck on toxic medications, or dead by now.  Those of us who aren't lazy and take responsibility for our own health usually fare a lot better. 

On a related note, I have to shudder at the people here who boast that Accutane allows them to eat all the pizza they want, and so forth. Good for you(for now), but don't say it like that's a good long-term solution to your health. That's like saying "this Aspirin allows me to bang my head against the wall all day and not feel pain!". Accutane is a very toxic drug and binging on pizza has its own ramifications, not the least of which is acne for those of us NOT covering up our symptoms with medications. It's actually insulting to my intelligence to read people saying that food doesn't affect skin when I can literally bet my house on a break-out if I eat certain foods high in sugar or bad fats, or if I'm not getting the right vitamins and minerals in my diet. This is a pattern that's gone on 20 years now, so the proof has been established conclusively. Same with bowel health. If you're constipated or not eliminating properly, expect a high likelihood of skin problems. That's because when one elimination channel(i.e. the colon) isn't doing it's job, it'll very often manifest as problems in the body's largest elimination organ -- the skin. Before you go shouting down ideas like this you should all read Dr. Bernard Jensen's landmark book "The Guide to Better Bowel Care" to understand the concept of intestinal toxemia and how it can lead to other problems in the body. I know for a fact that when my digestion and elimination is compromised, my chances of breaking out are never higher. That's why I make sure to get lots of vegetables and other fiber sources into my diet.   

It's hard to comprehend how anyone could believe that diet has been scientifically proven to be irrelevant in acne. Seriously people, get a clue. That's the stupidest, most illogical counterintuitive bull**** I've ever heard. All you have to do is go to the published medical article database PubMed(google it) and search the keywords "diet acne" or "nutrition acne".  You'll get hundreds of studies full of scientific evidence showing the huge role diet plays in acne development. Furthermore, the more modern the study, the more validation is being given to what those of us with common sense have been saying for years.  Here's just a sampling of the findings: 1)"High glycemic load, milk and ice cream consumption are related to acne vulgaris" -- 2012 study from BMC Dermatology. 2)" Evidence exists highlighting the association of acne and high glycemic loads, certain dairy products, and refined sugar product ingestion."(From a review of the literature by Veith et al., 2011). 3)"Mediterranean diet and familial dysmetabolism as factors influencing the development of acne"(2011 study from the Scandinavian Journal of Public Health demonstrating a protective effect of the Mediterranean diet on acne). The list goes on but I don't have time to do your research for you. 

Then there are the clowns who say acne's not caused by diet, but caused by hormones. You realize that diet also affects hormonal activity, right? Ever heard of insulin? Do you think we're all just helpless prisoners to our hormones, or slaves to our genes?  Genes may load the gun, but environment(including diet) pulls the trigger. It's time for people to smarten up and start empowering themselves with knowledge rather than relying on their nutritionally-ignorant doctors for all the answers.  I'll leave you with this abstract of a 2012 German study from the journal Dermato-Endocrinology pointing to the Western Diet's role in acne development(read it carefully and note the last line I italicized for emphasis to those of you with dermatologists more concerned about writing prescriptions than healing their patients): 

"The purpose of this paper is to highlight the endocrine signaling of Western diet, a fundamental environmental factor involved in the pathogenesis of epidemic acne. Western nutrition is characterized by high calorie uptake, high glycemic load, high fat and meat intake, as well as increased consumption of insulin- and IGF-1-level elevating dairy proteins. Metabolic signals of Western diet are sensed by the nutrient-sensitive kinase, mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), which integrates signals of cellular energy, growth factors (insulin, IGF-1) and protein-derived signals, predominantly leucine, provided in high amounts by milk proteins and meat. mTORC1 activates SREBP, the master transcription factor of lipogenesis. Leucine stimulates mTORC1-SREBP signaling and leucine is directly converted by sebocytes into fatty acids and sterols for sebaceous lipid synthesis. Over-activated mTORC1 increases androgen hormone secretion and most likely amplifies androgen-driven mTORC1 signaling of sebaceous follicles. Testosterone directly activates mTORC1....The role of Western diet in acne can only be fully appreciated when all stimulatory inputs for maximal mTORC1 activation, i.e., glucose, insulin, IGF-1 and leucine, are adequately considered. Epidemic acne has to be recognized as an mTORC1-driven disease of civilization like obesity, type 2 diabetes, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. These new insights into Western diet-mediated mTORC1-hyperactivity provide a rational basis for dietary intervention in acne by attenuating mTORC1 signaling by reducing (1) total energy intake, (2) hyperglycemic carbohydrates, (3) insulinotropic dairy proteins and (4) leucine-rich meat and dairy proteins. The necessary dietary changes are opposed to the evolution of industrialized food and fast food distribution of Westernized countries. An attenuation of mTORC1 signaling is only possible by increasing the consumption of vegetables and fruit, the major components of vegan or Paleolithic diets. The dermatologist bears a tremendous responsibility for his young acne patients who should be advised to modify their dietary habits in order to reduce activating stimuli of mTORC1, not only to improve acne but to prevent the harmful and expensive march to other mTORC1-related chronic diseases later in life."

Hai ! :) I'm also one of the patient who got the shincort injection once.I'm worrying about the side effects of this injection , and i'm wondering know how long does it stays in the body ????Because 2 weeks.... i realised something abnormal , like growing of fine hairs(quite long) on almost my whole body, hair fall, etc...and the MOST serious side effect is my whole chest there grew LOTssss of acne in just a few days after the injection,  is that the side effect just because of the shincort injection ????Well... now, those acne on my chest almost recover, but left a lot of scars... :(What should i do now??? so frustrated...:(Thank You for reply ^^

DO Not let them put cortizone in your face!!!! My Dermatologist did not warn me and my face caved in!!! I have huge pit from the injections in my checks and my eyebrow. The holes are huge and inflamed!! It has been 9 months since I was injected with cortisone and now I'm having my 6 th skin draft surgery!!!!!
