Well ladies, I have stumbled upon this thread when I googled pregnancy symptoms and mirena. I too have been having some horrible symptoms and I all honesty can't wait to have this evil, evil thing removed. I had it inserted 3 1/2 years ago due to hormonal imbalance and chronic migraines. I was desperate and anything was worth a try. I also welcomed the fact that it was BC too since I have never done well with any type of hormone type BC before. I was going to have freedom and not have to worry about a constant supply of Trojans on hand! My first few years were great..or so I thought. Looking back, I feel the mirena likely did contribute to some of my health concerns including weight gain, but nothing too severe that I questioned having it in place still... Last spring, I started getting those weird fluttery feelings in my stomach (lower abdomen to be exact). There were times that it even felt like a baby turning position inside me (I've had 2 full term pregnancies prior to mirena). I thought I was either going crazy or had to be preggo. A home test or two confirmed I was not and I continued on figuring I'd find out eventually if there was infact a baby in there. 8 months later and no baby, I was still getting the fluttery feeling from time to time, but have chalked it up to something else obviously. Quit worrying about it, but the feeling is a bit annoying when there is no explanation for it. These past 4 months have been hell. Not only have I taken and wasted money on numerous pregnancy tests, but my life has been turned upside down! I have had major mood swings ... From completely ticked off and irritable to bawling my eyes out for no apparent reason. Sore tender breast, no spotting or MP, my hips ache as they did in my previous pregnancies.. Abdominal pain. I feel like I am PMS'ing constantly. Then I started having chest pains, severe dizziness (spinning like I was super drunk) and the worst part, anxiety and panic attacks. I see my GP frequently as is, due to my uncontrolled migraines. He felt I needed a pregnancy test done and also sent me for extensive tests on my heart and other organs.. All came back healthy and well and a negative on the pregnancy test. So, they rx'd me prozac for the anxiety and sent me on my merry way. I have been asking to have the mirena removed since I personally feel it is the root to all these troubles. I hadn't had any sign of period or spotting for months and in that time frame my headaches improved, so they are very reluctant to remove it. But, in the past 5 weeks (and since starting the prozac which is just a mild dose of 10mg and has thankfully lessened the panic attacks and anxiety) I have had two "periods" spotting and passing clots for a few days and then nothing... Except the horrible return of my headaches and all the other preggo symptoms like tender breast, sore hips, cramps and back aches that leave me hard to move. Oh, and also the occasional fluttering. I have come to hate this thing and thankfully due to my presistant complaining and need for pain meds to control my migraines once again, my GP has finally booked me to see the OB who placed it so I can discuss having it removed. I won't take no for an answer! I've considered a trip to the pharmacy for another pregnancy test, but I know it will likely be a waste of my money and time.. Since these symptoms have been before and from what I have read from all the posts here.. Sound to be common! Do what you have to to put your minds at ease, but do know that you're not alone!! 2 weeks from today I see my OB and hope he will remove this beast right there and then, but then I remind myself of how the medical system works and I will likely have to book another appointment for that. My days with mirena are coming to an end none the less though! Ask me 2 years ago and I would have said mirena was the best form of BC and I wouldn't have it any other way! It's clearly not for everyone.. And just because it might agree with you at first doesn't mean things can't change! Hang in there ladies..

I am having all of these issues and I have a child already. I feel the little flutters every now and then and have been having nausea like no other....the morning sickness in the morning and the dizzyness and light headedness is just out of control. I did not experience any of this with my first pregnancy but I am certain that i may be pregnant. I have taken multiple test (at least 6) and one said yes and the others were negative. Now the one that said yes was very faint but I can't get into the doctor for another couple weeks....what ever will I do....Please someone respond and tell me what yu think..

I have had the mirena for 8 months now and experiencing all the same symptoms. I throw up at least once a day at the same time like I did with my daughter and I went to the dr last month to see if I could be pregnant. She said the mirena had indeed moved some. And the hormones it releases can indeed cause a false negative so I have an ultrasound scheduled on the 20. Regardless if I am or not I will prob have it removed as im sick of the symptoms. Ive bee. Bleeding since day one. And very heavy. Got mirena bc I thought itd be cheaper in the long run then the pill but I spend so much on tampons and pads it definetly exceeds the cost of the pill.

Hello ladies. I'm so thankful that I found this forum.  I've had my device in since November 2010 and havent had a period since before I got pregnant with my son January 2009 and was extremely irregular before that...I've had severe mood issues but attributes it to the Post Pardum Depression and Bi-Polar Disorder.  Every couple months, however, my meds don't keep up with my crazy hormones, but I still never attributed it to Mirena.  I sought out this forum because I've been experiencing exhaustion, mood swings, cravings (chocolate/pickles), sore/swollen breasts, cramps, and tightness in the lower abdomen.  I took a preg test, which came back neg., and wanted to do more research before seeking out a doc.  I know that my Mirena has caused ovarian cysts and have had cysts burst before causing extreme pain, but but no maintenance BC was still worth it to me...After reading through every comment here I've decided to hold off for a few weeks and see if symptoms persist at which point I'll take another preg test and seek out med opinion.

On the topic of doctors. LADIES!!! You know your own bodies! you have to fight for it! again and again myself and friends and family have been ignored by docs and it has always resulted in disaster! ALWAYS! My mother-in-law was dismissed when she brought her infant in with a wheeze and they said it was a cold...she argued and argued (turned out the baby had tumors in his throat that were closing off his airways!!) My Aunt went in complaining of abdominal pain and said she thought it might be appendicitis. They ignored her until her appendix burst! (when they went to do the surgery, her appendix was on the wrong side...which is why they ignored her theory in the first place, but still!) My dad went in complaining of debilitating charlie-horses (muscle cramping) in his chest. You know what his doc said?? "You don't have muscles in your chest." are you kidding me?!?! IDIOTS! My personal favorite: at 24 weeks, i was admitted into the hospital with SEVERE pain in my upper abdomen. my OBGYN was on call that night and discharged me saying i had the flu -- or food poisoning -- he couldn't decide which.  He doped me up before I could argue with him and sent me home.  Turns out I had gall stones with accompanying pancreatitis.  After 3 additional attacks, i returned to the hospital 3 weeks later and was admitted and properly diagnosed by someone else within an hour. the catch? After 24 weeks, you can't have your gall-bladder removed until after you've had the baby!

Moral of the story! there are idiots in every profession!!! don't be bullied by a doc! they don't know everything about YOU! it's your body, you're the one paying for your healthcare; fight for it!

I have had Mirena for a little over a year and have had pregnancy symptoms off and on in varying degrees of intensity. At this moment I have headaches, breast heaviness, leaking colostrum, nausea, bloating, moodiness, exhaustion. I have 3 kids so I know what pregnancy feels like but all tests are negative. I haven't had a period in almost a year. I even went to the Dr the last time it happened and made them do an ultrasound to be sure. I hate feeling like I am crazy! Glad I'm not alone.

I too am having all the pregnancy symptoms and also had a negative hpt as of last week. I do my research and what I found was interesting. If you go on the mirena website and read it states that the exact way this prevents pregnancy is unclear, there are several ways. So, for those women who are saying that mirena prevents pregnancy by simulating pregnancy, you clearly did not do your research. In fact, if you click on the full prescribing info on the website and read the fine print under the study portion you will find that in less than 5% of woman studied they had distended abdomens, nausea, heartburn and weight gain. And in 12% of women they had other pregnancy symptoms. So I suggest you all read it carefully. I plan on having a blood test shortly. If I indeed am not pregnant, I will be having this removed.

Did you finally did the blood test?? I had the mirena put on at my six week check up after I had my son 11 months ago but I'm feeling worst than when I had him. I'm just really confused and worried. I would really appreciate if you answer this.
Thank you

I have had my Mirena for 4yrs and 10months now... the past 3 weeks I have had ALL the pregnancy symptoms one can have. I have only had 4 periods in the entire time I had this IUD. I have never felt better till the past 3 weeks. I thought I was pregnant for sure. Saw my doctor two days ago, she did an urine and a blood test (both negative) and a trans-vaginal ultrasound. I am NOT pregnant. She is removing the IUD next week (it's done at a different office).

I loved my IUD but it "wore off" and is now causing a phantom pregnancy that includes 10 pounds of weight gain in 3 weeks, darkening of the aureolas, swelling/tender breasts, fluttering/movement of the abdomen area, nausea and vomiting in short increments throughout the day, head aches, tired feeling but little ability to remain asleep, frequent urination, severe mode swings/crying episodes and odd cravings such as chocolate milkshakes with starburst candies, avocado with vanilla yogurt, chocolate dipped in a sweet potato butter etc.

NOT pregnant...just acting it! Good luck ladies.
