Dear Mikeswife: 1st my condolences on your loss!!! That is a trauma emotionally and physically. If you feel you need counselling, please seek it. You can't go through something like that and be expected to just get on with things.
2ndly, after a birth a woman can bleed upto 6 weeks after. It is not a period in the actual sense of it. Even though it is the sloughing of your uterus. Did your doctor put you back on birth control or did you start it yourself? The reason why I ask that is, it is nature controlling the bleeding right now. And that is why doctors say not to have sex for at least 6 weeks after a birth. That is the amount of time a uterus takes to shrink back to normal. THEN your actual period will start, and then you can track your cycle! I am worried that you have started birth control by yourself, as this can play havoc with your hormones, ESPECIALLY after the trauma you have been through. If the doctor put you on thats one thing. Your body just needs time to heal. Another reason why doctors say to wait is that your hormones especially estrogen are REALLY high right now, and the chances of you getting pregnant again are VERY high. It is the same for women who have gone through an etopic pregnancy or miscarriage. Just give yourself sometime to come to terms with all you have been through. Since the bleeding has now stopped, you should be getting your real period soon, so then you can start wathcing those dates, when you want to try again. Best Wishes and health.!
