thanks, I had lower face lift, neck lift and CO2 laxer peel. I'm hopeful, bur one side of my face is much more swollen than the other. Hard, tight, cheeks. Ears hurt, neck is all bruised. I still see wrinkles in between the stretch marks. I don't know if that's normal, but I'm staying out of the sun and I'm beginning to feel like a vampire. I know we all have to wait for the healing process to work, but it can get depressing when men call you up for a date or your friends want to do lunch. It really looks bad.. I wish the time would go faster.

I'm not sure if you still chekck this site since it has been at least 1 yr since this conversation has been going on. But, just curous about the "hard cheeks." I had f/l 4 weeks ago. I also have hard cheeks with the right worse than the left. I also have approx. a 4 in x 1/2 inch bruise on my R cheek. My Dr. said to use warm packs and massage the area. He also told me that this will go away but it could take a very long time. Not sure what he meant by 'long." After all this time, is the hardness in your cheeks gone and also did you have bruising also??
Do you have any residual effects from all of this ? Hardness, swelling or discoloration ? Thank-you - I hope you still might check this site occasionally ....

thanks Ladies I am nearly 4 weeks post surgery in Malaysia and was getting a bit worried. I too had researched and am a registered nurse and was not expecting the hardness and swelling to stay this long....funny how this is not mentioned in the pre reading. Any way I can see it will eventually look good but its nice to know it is normal for it to take this long or longer to go down

Hi. Me too. Just returned from Malaysia 4 weeks post lower facelift. And I still have swelling on one side of my face and bruising and tightness. I have been in constant contact with my surgeon and its all NORMAL!!!! He tells me what to expect, what to look out for. One side of my face looks fantastic, the other side just has to catch up! The hardness goes on its own but some of us take longer than others. 6 weeks to 3 months seems to be the norm. I will keep posting. If you have a question may be I can help by asking my surgeon. Keep going ladies, its gonna get better!

I think what happens is that the side that's done first doesn't get ice packs until the other side is completed, so it swells up more.

Today I go to the doctor. It's been 6 1/2 weeks since my lower face lift, neck lift, and Co2 Laser peel. It looks somewhat better. Its pulled so tight and the right side is still a lot more noticeably swollen than the left. I seem to have white hair beginning to show at the upper corners of my mouth. I don''t know what that's all about and behind my ears still hurt a lot. I'll post again after my visit.

I had S lift along with some lipo on jaw, beginning of Jan 2012.  I developed a hematoma, very serious on one side of my face.

It has softened and improved over the past few months, but still lumpy and  very numb.   I did not initially agree to go with steroid shots, as suggested by my surgeon.  However in the past month I tried one injection at 25% strength, it seemed to help.   About 10% improvement, I would estimate.  I also tried some scar tissue massage and ultrasound.   Minimal improvement with this approach, and somewhat irritating to the skin.

I consulted a dermatologist who does extensive scar treatment with steroid and she said there is no need to fear steroids, you can go full strength and it is not likely you will suffer any negative side effects.   So, next time I see my surgeon, I will ask for a stronger injection of steroids.

My cosmetic surgeon sees me constantly 1 - 2 times per month.  He has been completely supportive.

Yes, behind my ears is still painful especially first thing in the morning. I try to sleep sitting up but always end up down under the blankets!!! Its very cold here! I get my husband to check every day to make sure its not infected. Hope your doctors visit goes ok. Its great to have their support and encouragement.

I know doctors will scoff at this approach but it worked for me. I would warm up some baby oil and GENTLY massage the sides of my face. I found it works better than ice packs or heat packs. My swelling has improved in a few days after 3 weeks of ice packs. Everyones different I suppose but this was suggested to me by a friend who has a "natural" approach to every ailment! I had a lot of bleeding during surgery on one side of my face and this is slow to go down. Maybe suggest it to your doctor...see what he thinks ... will make his day I'm sure!

Had a facelift 11 days ago by top South African Surgeon. Was told recovery 3 to 4 weeks. Swelling completely gone and only slight bruising left. Want to begin cycling but advises me to wait.

I am 60 and cannot believe how quickly I have recovered.

I was so glad to read qoftheu's post. That helps to see there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I am 59 and I had a lifestyle lift midface/neck lift 7 days ago and was glad to read that the hard cheeks wll hopefully only last 3 months or so. I just have to be patient.

The top part of my cheeks are soft to the touch. It's just the lower part of my face that is hard which makes my cheeks look stretched a bit. But I realize it's the hardeness and some swelling( not much) that is probably making them look this way. The skin however is smooth and there are no lumps just bruising from the corners of my mouth down to my chin which will hopefully start to dissipate soon.

My next follow up appt with my MD is on Thursday so at that time I will ask about warm showers or warm compresses to start to soften the hardness. Guess I am just anxious to try to somewhat start looking normal again minus the jowls and turkey neck.(lol)

The numbness and sleeping upright doesn't bother me. The pain is tolerable and it seems like I am going longer periods of time(7-8 hours) before I need to take another pain pill.

I like Christina feel a lot better after reading what you wrote and am also grateful for what you have shared.

Christina, I see that it has been one month since you wrote this. How has one month made a difference for you ? I would love to hear about your progress.
