It's probably mono, a virus, that causes inflammation of the lymphatic system. It looks and feels a lot like strep. The swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck can put pressure on the ear and block some of the drainage tubes which lead to ear pain. Antibiotics don't work because it is a virus, not bacteria. Your body will naturally fight it and the symptoms (except for fatigue) will generally go away 7-10 days after the onset of symptoms. Avoid taking anything with acetaminophen since the virus attacks the liver and acetaminophen affects that organ too. I have been managing by taking 3 ibuprofen (200 mg each) every 5 hours to reduce the swelling, and drinking green tea with honey and ice water to sooth the throat. If the swelling gets too bad despite the ibuprofen, your doctor can prescribe steroids. A simple blood test can tell you if you have it. My doctor used blood they had take for an RBC to do it and it took all of 30 minutes to get the results.

I also came across some info, that ear posts and earrings contain mercury and may also be related to some of these disorders...This industry is very rarely regulated, so there is no clue as to what they are actually using.

Get all your wisdom teeth pulled now,do not wait.I am a 36 year old mother of 3 and have battled off and on 20 years od wisdom teeth and I had the same symptoms and everything. If left too long it can form pus pockets in your cheeks, head, throat and ear.It can also turn into malignant tumors.I hope this has helped you,I know what and why you feel that way and not to scare you but it can also be fatal. Thanks

Just seeing this. Went to the ER last Sunday with similar symptoms. Diagnosed with severe outer ear infection and strep. Prescribed an oral antibiotic - clindamycin, and ear drop antibiotic/steroid combo - ciprodex. Also prescribed a pain killer - oxycodone. I have had major surgery in the past, and this pain from my ear and throat was comparable. Felt much better 24 hrs later

Sounds like Mono you need to see your primary care dr. for blood work. I had the same thing it is a viral infection.

I have this poblem at the moment and can confirm it is my wisdom tooth!!! i get it all the time on and off as they are inpacted and in need of been removed (just the bottom ones). they are trying to push through but cant so i get an infection/inflamtion all the time. I too had my Tonsils removed and it feels like i never did with the pain i have at the moment. the pain is all contained to one side, gland/ear splitingly painful. at the moment i am traveling and cant afford the crazy prices of removal. so i need to wait till i go home in a few months. anti inflamitory's work the best (except at night when the pain wakes me up, so i am like a zombie at the moment o.O)

as a child i had a cold/flu/sinus and went to the doctor they told me i was fine. at the time i had a dentists appointment. my mum said to the dentist i wasnt feeling very well. out of courtesy. he asked was my jaw hurting me and i said yes. he took a xray to see if i had an infection. on the xray he was able to show me all the congestion build up from me sinus around my teeth and then told me, that pain travels into your ear and your face and neck. making you fell all the pain and that is why, the doctor wouldnt see anything wrong by looking. gave me some anitbotics and off i went all better.

thats the facts about how you whole face is linkd together. amazing to know. not so amazing to go through!!!

I hope this helps some people. I cant say its the answer to everyones probelms, maybe some though.

I don't have any answers for you unfortunately but I can tell you that you're not alone I am going through the EXACT same thing and I'm nineteen and a smoker. The pain keeps getting worse now I am at the point where my whole body hurts, it is mostly the right side and my teeth head jaw throat and ear! And I thought about asking my mom if she had any pain killers from a past surgery. I hope that we both get better and someone has an answer.

I have a similar issue....About a month ago I thought I had an ear infection. I went to the doctor and he said it was a sinus infection. I was on meds for 10 days and I felt better. But about a week later, I had the same pain. I went to the dentist, he took xrays and he said it was not a dental issue. I don't have my wisdom teeth or any cavities. I went bad to the doctor and he prescribed more meds for my sinus infection. 10 days later and now the pain is unbearable. I have excruciating pain in my ear, jaw, under my eye, teeth, and throat. I am going for a Ct scan tomorrow, but I am ready to cut open my ear and relieve some of this pain. I can't sleep and or eat. Has anyone experienced this?

I've had the same symptoms, apart from a massive ulcer to make matters worse. Might actually top myself, by far the worst thing I've ever been through.

I am feeling what everyone else is feeling. I am 21, and a smoker... I have an earache in the right ear and throat is sore on the right side. This isn't my first time being in pain like this. I've been gettin sore throats like this since I was 15. The best I can say is to make logic of your situation. Ok. 1. Sore Throat.. Take an ibuprofen (now I'm no doctor but I take about 900 some odd mg's every 6-8 hours. -- If I feel my throat even tingle that's when I take my next dose.) 2. One commonality from the doctors I've seen has been that the cause is post-nasal drip. I take 120mg's of Pseudophedrine every 12 hours or you can do 60 every 6 hours, to help dry up the drip. Some have said that the phlegm is also what's making it hurt. 3. You need to drink plenty of fluids, as this will help loosen up the phlegm. Drinking hot liquids helps, chicken noodle soup broth is very nutrient rich and the heat will soothe your throat. For whatever reason I always add honey to my tea... I feel like it helps coat my throat from the nasal drip. -- I don't like lemons but they are great for you too! Drop it in the cup! :) 4. Does your face hurt?? Place a warm towel on your face to help with the swelling of your sinuses, it will also bring healthy blood flow to the area, which will promote the swelling to go down. 5. Lozenges -- I use a regular old menthol cough drop. I don't spend money on them and I try to by them in bulk. They help you continue to salivate. You may find your mouth to be dry during this time. 6. Activity! Get active. Laying in bed will keep the infection in those areas (ex. Head hurts on the side your laying on because all the mucus drained to that side). Try taking a walk or something. I know the pain is unexplainable, but we have to fight. 7. Because I'm always sick I always have antibiotics on hand. So I take them: one pill, twice a day. 8. Hot showers or bathing in a scented Epsom salt bath, I love lavender. After youve taken all these good medicines you take the bath and its a sick persons dream. The lavendar really helps you relax. (((Heat also promotes blood flow as previously mentioned, so the bath could help with swelling. I am no doctor, just a sick person looking for answers like you!!! Hope this helped someone! God Bless :)

Same symptoms as above. Extremely frusterated when the doc guesses what it might be. I know medicine is not an exact science but don't put words in my mouth either! When you ask, "is it painful now?" after I've told you 3 times that I've taken over 1600mgs of ibuprofen + a muscle relaxer, no its not as painful! It was unbearable, now it's bearable but still efn burns and aches. The doc says "is it constant? If its constant it could be this,,,. But if it's on and off then its probably that...". It isnt comforting! I mean, how the hell do you answer that? Yes it's constant until a pain med kicks in then it subsides. I'm at a loss. He gave me steroids and nexium. I'll check back in to let you know if either work. Fingers crossed. This is hell!

Infections, Infections everywhere! I just want to headbutt everything in sight! I was given antibiotics yesterday - One tablet, three times a day, So far no relief! *Dr. recommended me to take inner health plus AFTER the course is finished* Pulsating temple, horrific earache, mental toothache and dehydrated as f**k - no matter how much water I consume! Sleep is all I can do to escape the pain for a very short while before the pain strikes and wakes me from that tiny moment in heaven where there is no pain! Mine is an infection of the tooth *wisdom* I went to the Dentist before headed to the doctor and they were fully booked til f**k knows when. I was offered to "Sit and wait" but could be waiting all day for nothing. But now, as I am on the antibiotics I have to wait til I finish the whole course of medication before I can have my tooth removed! This sh*t is BALLS!
