I'm 16 and got the shot because of parent trust issues and crazy weird period dates, doctor said it would help with mood also, I got this about 6 months ago for the first and last time, I haven't stopped my "period" in 3 months, the doctor told me its normal. But it DOES NOT feel normal to me. Its not even a period its also the brownish color all of you are experiencing, also really really bad cramping, which i have never ever had cramps with my period before this shot. I have been patient because the doctor told me to wait it out. But its getting a little bit ridiculous.
I have been on and off Depo for 5 years now and i too love it. I have no weight gain or other problems but i do have a low sex drive. I fell pregnant with my second child after ben off Depo for 6 months and in that 6 months i did not get any periods. I have been back on it for 1 and a half years and i too have been geting the dark brown discharge i think it is normal with Depo but should also be checked out as there can be other causes and some can be very risky.
Hi guys
I came across this after having my own vaginal discharge for coming along 8-9 days and I was seeing if its normal. This is my first shot and I figured it was just my lining coming away. Wanted to make sure it was okay
Please dont scare people about the bone problems! It was likely there before and you're putting cause to the depo injection, this isnt true! The only reason doctors knew the bones were SLIGHTLY thinner because in the experiment they took xrays and used all that fancy stuff and the bones thinned by a thou after someone had been on it for 2 years. A thou is a thousandth of an inch. If you're concerned, drink more milk, it doesnt cripple your bones and end up with you going to physio at all.
With regard to mood, I dont have mood swings, or havent yet. But yes it has effected my mood, (not my sex drive though) my temper is a lot calmer... a hell of a lot calmer. Depending if this brown stuff goes away I'll stay on it for sure possibly because it dulls down my quick temper.
With regard to sex drive, please do remember it is a hormone, too much or too less will effect people in different ways. Mines fine
Weight - I dont think it makes you put on weight at all, in fact the most it has put on under screened medical conditions is 3 kg where they've forced people to keep the same diet. Thousands of people, so likliness is you're blaming the pill but you're actually eating more... I've had an odd craving for donner kebab, which Im not too keene on, maybe that is why people are putting on weight, weird wants for fatty food but noone makes you eat them.
Lady with the infertility problem, the most you will be infertile from this is a year, and that is because your body needs to sort out remaking the right levels and repreparing the body. I hate to say this but its likely if there was a problem it wouldve been there if you never saw the injection.
A lot of research has gone into this, thousands of people tested for long amounts of time. Please research your contraception more carefully, its not right for everyone, sure. But before you scare others off it please get your facts right and ask the doctor before you start throwing around accusations that it'll cripple you or make you infertile. Remember the MMR causes autism scare? That started from people attributing blame and not looking at how things were before.
The bone thing is 100% true... When I got my shot they told me right away that I need to buy calcium supplements right away!
And just because it worked for you desn't mean all these women aren't doing their homework. I did my homework on it for an entire month before I decided to get the shot and I have had HORRIBLE mood swings and I have had my period with a heavy flow and clots for 5 months now! I did not gain weight or lose my sex drive (I do agree with you on those issues)... This site is to let people know how it reacted for them... REVIEWS!!! I'm so glad the shot is working for you... I'm jealous! LOL!
I've had my first depo injection, about 1.5 months ago, really not happy with it. I was taken off the contraceptive pill because of blood pressure issues. The nurse gave no option other than depo. Already have a thick brown discharge, have been depressed as anything and my knees (which i have previously had a few minor probs with ) are at an all time terrible state, struggling just to walk up and down stairs. Severally unamused with this and will be asking to change when i next see nurse. Anyone any thoughts on implant?
Thanks
I have been on the Depo shot for about 15 years on and off. I was put on it when I was 11, my mother, sister, and aunt were all diagnosed with endomytriosis, and it was decided that it would be the best thing for me. I will admit that I did gain some weight initially, but it worked it's way out. I have stopped Depo 3 times now. It was recommended that because of the documented bone loss, that I stop taking the Depo every 5 years for a 12 month span. Each time it has taken almost the entire 12 months for my period to start again, but I have not noticed the weight gain that I did the initial time I started. Although this time I have noticed that I am having a regularly bloody discharge. It is not the heavy period, but a noticable bloody smear in a mucus film. It has been almost constant since I started back on the depo in October, about 8 months ago. My ARNP said that "spotting" would be normal for 3-6 months, but this isn't like normal spotting, and it is pretty constant, and over 6 months. Has anyone else experienced this with Depo?
I also have been experiencing this same symptoms. I am also on depo for 6 months now. I was diagnosed with bv also. The antibiotics killed off all my good bacteria then I had a yeast infection. My dr told me most of the time it's just bleeding and the mess from the shot are turning it that color. They will take a culture just to be sure but she says its your body trying to give you a cycle until the meds adhere in your body. I wanted to share bc I know this has been driving me crazy as well but I do recommend seeing your gynecologist. Hope this helps!
