OK. You're apparently having surgery to release the tendon. I'm assuming that treatment with exercise, orthotic devices, and corticosteroids was not effective.

Surgery is generally a treatment of last resort. The recovery will be long. Endoscopic heel surgery will have a shorter recovery period than open heel surgery, but recovery times will still be several weeks. The good news is you should be able to walk normally again.

As to losing your foot, I don't think the doctors would go ahead with heel surgery if they felt you were going to have to amputate your foot. If your diabetes is under control, you should have nothing to worry about.
