Hello,
Pretty recently I've noticed a bit of a red area on my glans. It doesn't itch, hurt, burn, no swelling, or anything like that. I wouldn't even know it was there if I didn't see it. It would be there for a day, then the next be completely gone. This time it stayed for about 2 or 3 days, I went to the doctor last Friday, he diagnosed it as Balanitis and gave me Ketoconazole cream to put on twice a day. I used it for about 3 days, the rash completely disappeared, then my urethra started becoming inflamed and sensitive. It didn't burn or hurt when I urinated, just sensitive and really red.
So, I went back to the doctor. They gave me a urine test and said no bacteria was in my urine and they prescribed me Doxycycline 2 times a day for a week.
The next day after taking the antibiotic the rash came back. Same deal, redness, no pain, swelling, itching, or burning. I went back to the doctor today and they are pretty stumped. He says it looks better than the last time I was here and it does, but that doesn't make me feel much better.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows a way to get rid of this random rash? I am at my wits end now. It looks like Balanitis but I only have the 1 symptom and the treatment doesn't seem to be working.
I was also tested for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Trichomoniasis which were all negative.
The underlying causes of balanitis can vary but often include poor hygiene, infections, or skin irritations.
To get rid of a rash caused by balanitis, you can try the following steps:
-
Practice good hygiene: Regularly clean the affected area with warm water and mild soap. Be sure to gently pat the area dry afterward, and avoid using any harsh soaps or scrubbing too vigorously, as this can further irritate the skin.
-
Keep the area dry: Moisture can worsen the symptoms of balanitis, so it's important to keep the area dry. After cleaning, you can use a hair dryer on a low setting to gently dry the area or use a clean, dry towel.
-
Avoid irritants: Certain substances can irritate the skin and worsen balanitis symptoms. This can include harsh soaps, lotions, and even certain types of condoms. If you suspect a particular substance is aggravating your symptoms, try avoiding it for a few weeks and see if your symptoms improve.
-
Use over-the-counter creams: Certain creams, such as antifungal creams, may be recommended by a healthcare professional to treat balanitis. These creams can help reduce inflammation and kill any fungal infections that may be present.
If your balanitis symptoms persist or worsen despite these steps, it's important to seek medical attention. I hope you got rid of it by now.
