I had my tonsils out 16 days ago - I am also a singer

my speaking voice has changed - it seems lower - and my friends have told me that too - but my Dr told me that it should go back to normal after a few weeks

I have tried to sing since my surgery - just something simple. and it sounds slightly different. not necessarily bad but different - I asked my Dr and he said that like my speaking voice, it should go back to normal after a few weeks - he said that vocal changes can take up to a month to go back to normal.

That's my experience.
My range has gotten widder. I guess it's to do with the throat not having any obstacle therefore the air is coming through more powerful and stronger.
Tonsillectomy was a good decision.

My daughter had her tonsils out a month ago and no sounds like she is "hearing impaired". She can not say words with B's or d's in them. Did your sons ever improve?

Dude I've had this surgery a moth ago and I am 17 years old.Truth is that your voice changes but not completely. It just takes time to learn how to control your voice again because the removal of tonsills changes the construction of your throat so it's like getting a new throat. It takes practice to control your voice.Pitch won't change so much at least it didn't change on me so don't worry everything should be alright!

I'm 19 and I got my tonsils out 6 days ago and I started waking up crying every night because my throat would get dry and effect my ears so badly so when doctors say drink a lot of water, chug it no joke. Since I've been doing that it doesn't hurt as much to talk and the white creepy things (aka scabs) have been getting a lot smaller but my voice is still not back to normal and I love harmonizing with my boyfriend when we sing so I'm just hopeing I'm still able to sing. I don't care if it effects my voice as long as I can still sing.

If you haven't gotten them out already, no it doesn't hurt. Recovery after the surgery is a bit uncomfortable. I just got mine removed today. They put you to sleep with anthesia and the surgery is over within 15-30 mins. I'm a singer so my only worry is whether my singing voice will improve or weaken. I am also 16. They doctors give you amazing pain medication for the pain.

Hi I'm Autumn, I am sixteen and I just got my tonsils removed today, I'm a very gifted singing and plan to keep singing for awhile, however I don't have a vibrato yet and I also need to know if my voice will go back to the way it is. Also, will my singing voice weaken or improve?

Hey! I had my surgery 15 days ago. My doctor told me that singing is fine so long as it doesn't hurt. If you're pushing too hard, back off of it. If you feel discomfort, don't hit those notes. You will need to practice to get your voice back to where it was. Currently, the only thing that has changed is my low notes. I was able to hit a low E or Eb before, but currently, I've only got a low A (and a painful low Ab). I'm told that it'll get better with time.

I had my tonsils removed 20 years ago and my voice has completely changed. It doesn't sound bad but know it's not the voice I was born with.
