I feel the same way. Is there any way to regain the voice prior to surgery?

I am 49 and the doc wants to take out both adenoids and tonsils. I am scared to death to have this surgery. I have have tonsillitis and strep over and over and have deep pockets in my tonsils. I am tired of being on antibiotics over and over. The rapid strep tests no longer work on me because I grow strands of strep that they don't test for. Last time I had strep it was strand G! I pleded with my parents as a kid to let me have this surgery to no avail. If you are in the fence about your child having this done...... PLEASE do it for them. So they won't be as scared as I am. My surgery is June 1,2017. If I don't chicken out.

I've heard the experience is worse the older you are. Push your doc apparently they WON'T recommend you get them out or send you to specialist on their own. Don't know about voice this is my daughter's 3rd day, and she completely lost it, but that does with sore throats sometimes

Don't chicken out. After you recover you will be so glad to be done with the step it will be worth it

I had a tonsillectomy 6 months ago. Since then I have not been able to sing high notes any more. Before the surgery I used to be able to do it with ease. My vibrato is also gone for the most part. The only advantage is that I can sing low notes now that I wasn't able to before. But high notes were my thing. Feels like I've lost part of my identity. Very annoyed because I told the ENT I sang and he supposedly dealt with singers. And he butchered me. The surgery was totally unnecessary by the time I finally did it because by then I had stopped getting recurrent tonsillitis. Biggest mistake of my life. Can't stress this enough, if you're a singer, unless it's absolutely necessary, do not do it.

me too!! The hospital was a great one and since they really didn't think anything would happen they just brushed by the possibility of me bleeding...well I bled and had to do another surgery after that.

I had my tonsils out when I was 8 and I'm now 40. Before getting them out, I had a very low voice and people would laugh because this low voice was coming from a tiny girl. I remember sounding funny afterwards and being worried that I'd never sound normal again! I've been a professional singer for 20+ years now. Who knows, maybe I sound better because I got my tonsils out. Just be careful to let them heal before trying anything straining or you could do some permanent damage. You may have to build up your voice again with lots of practice, but don't give up!

I heard that the older you are, The more it hurts in a tonsillectomy. I just got my tonsils and adenoids removed like 3 days ago and I'm in a lot of pain. My voice does sound a lot different but I don't know how long it'll be this way. I'm only 13
