i had mine taken as teen and My voice never has returned to normal and am now 33. I used to sing but now I do not because my voice sounds so nasal...I have been sad about it for years. I do not recommend this procedure unless you will die without it. :(

It will come back, I had the same surgeries done when I was 3. If it hasn't come back by now it will eventually. My voice was high and nasally until I hit puberty which sucked, but as soon as I hit puberty It deepened so much that the people I called couldn't recognize who I was. It will return eventually but may take time.

I'm 17 and I had my tonsils taken out a week ago there are good days and bad days ive been able to talk off and on but I still dont have my voice back completely I'm a singer but my doctor says I should be able to completely talk in another 2 weeks
I was also one of the lucky ones to pour blood out of my throat for a while but it was actually a relife to loose one of the scabs
Remember to get plenty of fluids and you will have to force yourself to eat other wise you will have to be hospitalized again.

That's odd, I had my tonsils and adenoids out yesterday and they told me to talk as much as possible

Thank you! It is son great to hear from another opera singer! I'm a soprano. Getting mine out due to repetitive infections and hoping that it will reduce my "can't sing at all this week" time. But I have been really worried about it. What was your recovery like? Did you do speech therapy? When did you first start doing vocal exercises?

Pictish you the very best of luck but if you start losing your appetite don't worry I think it is part of the process. I lost 23 pounds in 2 weeks. Hurt too bad to eat anything but Popsicles. I am 70 though and had tonsils removed, uvula trimmed and sinus surgery.

I have the same issue. I'm in two different choirs and I'm afraid that if I get the surgery I won't be able to sing like I do now.

I lost my singing voice for a full year after a tonsillectomy at age 44. I sing twice a week as a children’s librarian, and had no choice but to continue even though I lost pitch control and lower register range. Luckily my job doesn’t rely on the quality of my voice but I found it very distressing after reading all over the internet about voice recovery happening in a month or two. I had no choice but to have a tonsillectomy but if I had to sing for a living it would have destroyed or delayed my career. Singers be warned and have your tonsillectomy work done by a specialist for singers.

Hi. I’m 15 and I got my tonsillectomy about 5 days ago. The tablets I use do work but only 15 minutes after I swallow them. Every hour or so I get absolutely horrendous earaches that can last between 10 and 30 minutes. I can speak however my voice is raspy and high pitched. I can eat very little amounts of solid food but find it difficult and feel like I’m swallowing razors when I do!
Is this part of the healing process and normal?

I had both my tonsils and adenoids removed when i was about 6 or 7, now im 15 and i feel as if my voice isnt the voice it is supposed to be. Now that i look back i remember talking to a kid on my bus and they asked me "Why do you sound like that?". Now my voice is low and raspy. Should a female really sound like this?....I don't like my voice and it always feels as if mucus is in my throat causing me to clear it very often. Its really annoying and ive been picked on about my voice ever since then.
