GUH! I've been running for almost 2 weeks and started spotting a day or so after I began (I was just walking before, was never a runner, so this is a totally new thing to me). It is ANNOYING as hell and I HATE wearing pantiliners all day long. I run 3 miles per day, I've only had one day off and am NOT giving it up because I am losing weight steadily. I am on birth control but there seems to be a lot of stuff online about spotting/intense exercise...so I am not worried. I am mid-cycle, on the dot (ha, no pun intended!) but geez, this is annoying. This is what I get for trying to be healthy and lose weight!!

I am 18 and have run cross country and track three years in high school. I didn't have any spotting until I left for college and started upping the intensity or durations of my runs. I am not sexually active and have never been on BC. It usually happens a few days after my period ends, and lasts up to ten days. I didn't think anyone else had this problem until I read this post. I also didn't really think much of it because it always seems to go away after a while, but may return when I have slacked off for a while. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I have been running for almost a month and I just had a pink spotting and now its brownish. I dont remember having this problem when I used to run a couple years ago. I'm on birth control, 29, never had kids, somewhat sexually active, not enough to get pregnant. It's just weird and I'm glad I'm not alone. :-)

Do any of you experience crapping/pain after running along with spotting?

I have recently added intense weight training every other day to my cardio regimen. I notice that i started spotting after weight training, not cardio. I am on BC. My paps are always good. Im glad Im not the only one.

I am very glad I saw this post. Sometimes I get paranoid reading medical things on the Internet. But I am glad to have found this thread.

I ran xcross country and track in high school for 2 years, then stopped running in college, a few years after college, i started running again, about 8 years ago, I experienced spotting after I exercised. I am 30 now and still get spotting after running. I didn't confirm this pattern until recently when I told my gyn about it, she told me to keep track when i get spot and when I excercise. I think I am going to print out some of this thread and show it to my gyn.

Sometimes I also get mild cramp along with dark brownish spotting, sometimes the spotting is more light brown and pinkish.

Thank you for sharing. I feel much better to know I am not alone. Now I want to find an explanation to this.

i run a few times a week and do kickboxing as well. i recently started hot yoga and now i have spotting. it is very strange. the only thing i can think is that it may have to do with starting to work certain muscles that i hadn't been using in the past.

!I started my period and it was normal for one day but then it stopped and I have been spotting slightly for almost two days. After my pregnancy I began working out and running as soon as I possibly could. Its been eight months of steady workouts and five months of normal periods since givng birth. Except recently I have been running every day instead of every other day. And I am sexualy active but my boyfriend cant have kids.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one. I've been having mid-cycle spotting (around ovulation time) for the past 2 years or so. I'm 34, not on birth control, and have never been pregnant. I run every second day or so, and I usually spot (sometimes heavily) after a run. It's frustrating! I've been to the doctor, had ultrasounds and no problems have shown up. The doc said that when you ovulate, a cyst can form as the egg comes through, and it pops and bleeds a bit. First, I've heard of this... but it's some sort of answer, even if it doesn't take the inconvenience away. Thanks though. It's good to know there are other people out there...

I am a 21 year old female...light smoker...light drinker...i have become very health conscious lately. For the last 2 months I have been walking about 2 miles 3-4times a week. On two occasions I spotted for about 2 hours. After the first time I then started that next months period a week and a 1/2 early. This last time(yesterday) I not only spotted, but am cramping really bad today. I am just frustrated that I am spotting from walking....

This thread has taken a huge amount of worry off my mind. I started running and doing strength training, after 4 months of being idle, hoping to reduce stress and get fit again. I started spotting (brown at first then red) on the first day I ran, which was 4 days after my period and didn't think anything at first. But it's been over a week now and I was starting to wonder if it might not be exercise related. It is such a relief to know that I'm not the only one dealing with this issue. Thank you for sharing all your experiences.

I was wondering about this and glad I found this site. I am training for a half-marathon, and drink plenty of water and stay hydrated, but this week I increased my running to 5 miles a day, more than I have ever done before, and started lightly spotting. I'm only 26 with no kids, so glad to know it's probably just hormones, and the fact I propably need more protein.

your answers make me feel better. I'm 25 on b/c pills and just started a exercise boot camp about a week and a half ago after not exercising for about 3 years almost. Just yesterday I started spotting and it's gotten a little heavier than spotting, but not period like heavy. I was scared that something might be wrong, but i have no pain or discomfort. I also wonder if it would affect my chances of getting pregnant as I plan to do it here in the near future?? :-)
