I know that you posted this over a year ago but I felt I needed to reply and see if you possibly had any information for me. For the last five years now I have had where I also get spotting sometimes after exercising, not just running. I am also trying to conceive and am concerned this might be a problem. I had a miscarriage about 8 months ago and have been actively trying to conceive again with no hope. I am in my 30's also but would like to know if you ever found out any information.

hi there,

after several tests, the only thing that was found were some very small fibroids in my uterus/falopian tube area. it is probable that they are being rubbed and start bleeding when i exercise.

once i had those test results, it had been going on for a year (yes it took THAT long for me to decide to go to a doctor then to get a series of appointments and test results from pap to ultrasound to see the specialist etc). at that point, the spotting had stopped for 2 months and rarely re-occurs. the doctor decided that it would be not worth the risk to have the intrusive telescopy test into my uterus. she felt that since my bleeding had stopped that it was most likely the fibroids. if the bleeding resumes she would like me to go for further tests inside. i assume those tests would take a biopsy of tissue from the uterus to look for cancerous cells.

i have never tried to have children, so i cannot compare miscarriage results. i am sorry that you went through that, i have seen how emotionally devastating it is :(

I know the original post was like a year ago, but I wanted all of you posters to know that all of your info has been helpful. I am 27 and I have 2 kids and I recently decided to start working out. I have the Mirena and I haven't had a period in a year. But since I started to work out I noticed that I would start spotting everyday I worked out. Sometimes I would have cramps but for the most part it's just annoying. So I am very happy to see that I am not the only one going through this. It seems like everytime I go to the doctors they don't get it or understand it. So thank you for making me feel normal.

I had to look this up because was worried, it happened for the first time to me yesterday, thought I was getting 2 periods in the same month. I have been trying to cut down my time on my mile, my own personal goal in my work out routine. I had pushed myself really hard, and had to walk around because I had cramps. I had felt this way before when pushing myself in the past, but low and behold, this time I had spotting in the mix. Anyway, after reading on this site I looked it up again and found some more information.

Personally I have a lot to think about. My body seems to have trouble with Dairy and Gluten (who doesn't these days?) and I've been off my diet, I know the Dairy can mess with hormones, and from another post on here so can caffeine so I will see if cutting those out and exercising works if not I will lower my intensity. Good luck! Definitely shouldn't be normal, no matter how popular it is.

I had spottings after I had an intense workout last 2 days ago. I thought I was the only one who had this condition. and after looking up at the internet I found this. We had a really similar story.

Thanks to you girls I am not bothered anymore with what is happening to me.

I will still see my doctor to seek for advice and actions for this.

Thanks again!:)

I found this string to be very interesting.  I came across it because I typed "why do I spot every time I work out" in the search bar and this was the top result.  I know most of the correspondence has taken place more than a year ago, but I still felt the need to share my story.  First of all it is a REAL relief to know that I too am not alone.  I'm 41 and last year I decided to get my butt into shape.  I've been doing 60min cardio workouts 3-5 times a week and EVERY time I work out, I spot.  I went to my doctor and after INSISTING that I not just get brushed-off she sent me for an ultrasound.  They found two cysts and a small fibroid - 'nothing to be worried about' I was told, but she still referred me to a OBY/GYN.  He then booked me for a D&C Hysteroscopy, which came out normal, and all my PAPs have come back normal too.  He told me not to worry and to keep exercising, and to keep a 'period journal' for 3 months and come back and see him.  Y'know, I have maybe ONE week where I don't see red and it's frustrating!  I tell myself not to worry about it, but it is rather upsetting to see spotting all the time.  *sigh*  Someone posted on here that they wished a doctor would give their feedback.  Yes!  It would be nice to have a formal explanation from someone in the medical field.

You have no idea how happy I am to come across this site.  I am 46 years old and just started working out with a personal trainer.  And I noticed after two days of intense workout I started my period again which just finished two weeks prior to my workout.  I was scared because I never had two menstrual cycle in one month.  The following month after my workouts I noticed that I was spotting and became concerned.  Went to the GYN and she said there was nothing wrong. I am just happy to know that there are other people like me out there.  I feel so much better.  Thank you so much and good luck to all of you who is trying to stay in shape.

Hi thanks so much for letting us know of your results and OMG! am so relieved am not the only one having (at times embarrassing) spotting issues...and yes totally after I jog!! My mom is freaked out and tells me to stop jogging, but I don't want to just stop exercising and I hate the gym. I have had numerous ultra sounds that have come out normal, I have a very small fibroid but my gynaec has said there should be no problems once (my fiancee) and i start having kids. The bleeding is also (like others) on the brownish side and super annoying!! I will follow up with my doc and see if i have a polyp...why aren't doctors suggesting this test, specifically as it seems to not be detectable with the ultra sound???

Wow, I am not the only one! I am spotting as well and hate it! I started yoga again after a 6 month break and after 4 days or practice spotting...I though something's wrong with me but I have been to GYN and did tests and all is ok. I am on b/c, have a 6 year old son and I am 29. Last year I have had the same issue. Thankfully with my b/c I don't have periods and love it but as soon as I started yoga again there you go...spotting.

Why is this happening? No one knows.... I wish it would go away so I can workout. I had to stop my workout because of it.

Thank you all for your many helpful and descriptive Posts. I have been out of shape for a while and had just begun an exercise program called P90X. After 2 days my body was sore and hurting to the point where I thought that I was falling ill to a flu. I also began spotting a light pink in my discharge, which scared the crud out of me!

Hey guys, idk if anyone still looks at this but it def caught my eye. I am 21, pretty active, but just started up running again after a few months of not. Yesterday I ran just two miles but I ran hard, as in sprinted, on a treadmill. This morning I woke up with spotting, dark reddish. It freaked me out. My boyfriend and I don't have sex, but we do other stuff occasionally and as a female I get paranoid. So I was also wondering if I got pregnant or if it was just from my har workout yesterday and I am psyching myself out. Let's hope for the latter!
