Hi everyone,

I started using Lexapro about a month ago in order to fight my anxiety. I did not decide on my own to start taking this medication, my doctor told me to use it and that is why I am not sure if Lexapro actually made my anxiety even worse, could it be that my doctor made a mistake when he thought that this medication is going to be good for me? Because it definitely isn't, I am obviously not getting any better, my symptoms are even stronger and worse than they were before, should I go and talk to my doctor again?

I don't think that it is doctor's fault because I had the same problem as you. My doctor prescribed Lexapro for me and it was awful, I didn't get any better and I had every single possible side effect. I went to talk to my doctor and he told me that this sometimes happens, not everybody reacts the same to this or any other medication. In the end he prescribed me Valium, another medication used to treat anxiety and this one worked just fine for me. You should definitely go and talk to your doctor in order to start using some other medication.

It did the same for me! The only anxiety medication that worked was xanax but that's not a long term solution because it's addictive. Be careful with what you take. I started abusing xanax so basically had to just deal with my anxiety without it. In the end so much better. Definitely talk to your doctor. Trust your body if you don't feel good on it , don't take it. It's not worth trying it for a period of time if you feel crappy the whole time!

You are right Guest, it really makes me feel crappy all the time!

I will definitely go and talk to my doctor but if he prescribes xanax to me too, what should I do, should I take it? Am I going to get addicted to it, is there like a period of time for which I should be taking xanax and then stop? I want to know this just in case if my doctor prescribes me xanax as well, I'd rather get addicted to some real drugs than to medications, I think it is the worst kind of addiction you could have.

I would listen to your doctor if I were you, if he tells you to take Xanax then take Xanax, if it doesn't work like Lexapro didn't, then just go back to your doctor and try another medication.

You know that you are able to overcome anxiety without taking any medications, right? I actually don't think that these medications are used to treat anxiety at all, they are just used to ease the symptoms, to make you feel like you are making some progress which you aren't really, and that is only making your anxiety even worse which you would notice once you stop taking medications.

Look, whatever you do or whatever you are planing to do, you should listen to your doctor! That is the first rule. I don't know about lexapro, I have heard that a lot of people didn't have any success with it, but who can tell? I know one case as well where that girl that I know was using Lexapro and it was not good for her. She was telling me that her anxiety was getting worse every day after she started to take it. The good thing is that she noticed this and she was tracking her condition. When she saw that this can be because of lexapro, she went to see the doctor so he immediately changed her therapy. So, consult with your doctor about every step that you are planing to take.

This is not your doctors fault. I know that there are so many doctors who can prescribe Lexapro because in some cases this medicine was helpful to so many people. But, like someone in here already told - who can tell?

I personally don't know a lot of people who find it helpful, so I would swear that there are so many better options and so many better medications than Lexapro. But if your doctor told you to try using Lexapro, you should try it. Maybe it will work for you, I don't know. Doctors can't be sure if this can help or not.

Good day. I don't have experience with it. I have never used it. I don't know is this good or bad. But here is what I do know about this. I am so sure that Lexapro will help slightly with the anxiety and it works a bit slower, not like other type of medications.  Now, this medicine maybe will make you sleepy, but that is normal. And this medicine also helps with the depression. Maybe you will have to wait for several weeks to notice this, and this is not the case with some other medicines, but it can help you. I am sure.

On the other hand, if you feel like you are getting worse, than you should consult with your doctor.
