I've been treated for severe depression and Borderline personality disorder for several years and have been on several medications. I found out that Effexor helps with heat flashe's so I asked my psychiatrist to put me on it. I started effexor in February 2018 and was doing good. Then on May 2nd my psychiatrist increased it to 375 thinking I would do even better. Well, within 15 minutes of taking the 375 mgs, I started getting hives. Every day the hives were getting worse and worse until this past Saturday my lips and eyes swelled up. The pharmacist said I was going into anaphylaxic shock and to stop the effexor immediately. Hence, for the past 2 days I am getting the brain zaps and dizziness and dealing with the hives. I hope I can deal with both of these issues without going to the medical or mental hospitals.

Has anyone successfully switched med without having the hive come back or does this symptom seem to occurs across all classes of ssris ?
Has anyone been able to clear their rash of hives whilst remaining on the meds ? Any advice is greatly appreciated

My doctor switched my meds from Effexor to Lexapro. I was on 150mg of Effexor, he put me on 75mg for two weeks and 37mg for another two weeks. The hives were and are horrible. Feels like pins and needles. I have been on Lexapro for six days and the hives are diminishing very very slowly. It's just horrible!!

Hey there, I just quit Venlafaxine like three weeks ago completely cold turkey. I have been experiencing hives since then and i have never been allergic to anything. Did you ever figure out if your hives were from quitting Venlafexine? I’ve tried researching this but have found nobody else dealing with hives after quitting the pill lol.

I am using venlafexine for since 2020 but only 37.5mg dosage. I been dealing hives for 2 months and none of antihistamines working on me! I tried Zyrtec, Allegra etc none of them worked! Thankfully I found this website and I will taper off my effexor dosage and will quit eventually. Today I cut my pills (thankfully mine is tablet not capsule) and made 18,75mg and will keep take it for the next couple weeks. I hope when I quit it completely my hives will disappear. At least thats what I hope now!
