Hello. I'm 35 year old female and I'm having some big problems with my excessive menstrual bleeding.
I talked with my doctor and he told me that it is sometimes completely normal to have these kinds of problems and that this shouldn’t worry me. I have also heard about some endometrial ablation surgery that should supposedly relieve my symptoms. As I heard- you can't have kids after it.
I have two beautiful kids and I'm not planning to have any more kids. But anyway, I would like to hear more about it and possible risks and complications. Is the operation really worth it!

Hello. I'm 39 year old female and I've had this operation few months back. I've asked my doctor all about it and that’s why I'm familial with the risks you're interested about.
From what has my doctor told me- complications of endometrial ablation are very rare and that I shouldn’t be worried about them.
If I understood right- they occur usually due to difficulty entering into the uterus through the vaginal canal.
That’s how the most common complications are bleeding, infection, perforation of the uterine wall or bowel and overloading of fluid into the bloodstream. I hope this helped you to understand better this.

I am 46 years old and had therm ablation over 1 year ago for the second time. The first time was not successful as the heavy bleeding returned soon afterward. After the second one, I had no pain and no period for about 14 months, then the pain started about 4 month ago still no bleeding. Since then I am having monthly pain and the intensity and duration increase as time goes by. It's getting unberable! I wonder how common for this to happen after the endometrial ablation?

I,too, have experienced very heavy periods - and also, periods that have gone on way too long. I am in my forties. Could I just assume it was peri-menopause? I didn't want to take the chance something more major was wrong, so I went for a trans-vaginal sonogram and had a biopsy. Luckily, no cancer! Your doctor SHOULD do these tests FIRST before recommending ablation!!! That's very important! But now, I, too, am in the position of having to decide whether to have this procedure, or not. And from what I'm reading here...it doesn't sound good! If you just read the doctor web-sites, it sounds like it's some "miracle cure"..with very little chance of complications or bad side effects. Now I'm thinking it might just be better to put up with inconvenient periods...I mean, who knows what the "long term" effects of this procedure will be? It's too new to know that!
