Are any of you qualified to give advice on medication

I was told yesterday by my doctor that they don't make Citralopram and so I have to start taking escitraloram. I have no choice. I have been on the other for three years and it has helped me a lot. I am a bit angry that I have to switch but I am out of the country so I have no choice. Does anyone know if they truly stopped making it? I will try the other when my prescription runs out in two days and am very nervous. Any replies would be helpful. Nervous gal out of the country.

What kind of psychiatrist can't spell psychiatrist?

I have never tried Celexa, however...started Lexapro 20 days ago for severe depression (crying daily, no sleep, hating myself for no reason as well as having some severe panic attacks, and a constant state of anxiety). I have started on 2.5mg lexapro (I break the 5's in half to avoid side effects) and I swear SOMEthing is changing. I've been making jokes again. I got up early today and jogged again like I used to. Let me rewind ...3 months ago depression and anxiety hit me like a ton of bricks, but for years , I have owned and operated 3 companies. My home is paid off, physically healthy and recently engaged...on the outside it looks like I have the life. A sudden tragedy hit and I sort of had a nervous breakdown that lasted for 3 months. Chronic fatigue, no appetite, suicidal thoughts :( I have a partial degree in holistic nutrition and was against medication, until now. I really think Lex is working. Not depressed, not tired, not hopeless or empty like I was. Hope this helps, hang in there!

for anyone not sure whether to take citalopram or escitalopram, please be assured that neither is better than the other, regardless of what you might hear from the company who made it, or people on the internet. simply put, some people will respond better to citalopram, and others will respond better to escitalopram.
in my own personal experience, i found citalopram to work well, although i had some tiredness in the daytime. with escitalopram, i experienced less tiredness, but had very vivid dreams and increased anxiety.
please note that everyone is different, so just because it turned out that for me, i got on better with citalopram (i prefer some tiredness over increased anxiety, and over-dreaming all night).. it doesn't mean the next person will have the same experiences. so try one for a month, to six weeks, starting slow (low dose).. and it it does not suit you, you can try the other. another similar med to try which seems to be quite similar in effectiveness is sertraline (but again, everyone is different, so remember it's a case of finding the fight one for you). nobody can say a particular med is better than the other, it's all about how you personally respond to the med. and finally, remember to keep trying, because eventually you WILL find what is right for you, because there are hundreds of options, and eventually you will be well again (you just need to keep going, and keep trying).

Hi,
I'm on Escitalopram 10 mg for about 9 months. My doctor prescribed it with valproate sodium 200 mg for my condition. I am suffering from Cyclothymia which is quite similar to bipolar type II. At first everything seemed fine and I was responding very well to my medication. But unfortunately I'm having more and more depressing episodes since 6 months ago. I feel like my true self is trapped inside my mind. I hardly can show my affection toward people I care. Although before taking my medications everything was darker, I really wanna get better. I dread so much to be energetic and enthusiastic once more in my life. I don't know if it's fine to keep on taking my meds. Sometimes I think it's valproate that's not working and sometimes I think I'm not responding well to Escitalopram. Is there any medical suggestion you could give me other than counseling with my doctor? I've already done it and he says it's all because of my condition and it's hard to get away from..

Hi. I was on citalopram for 10 years and had to come off it because I kept getting bad bouts of depression when work triggered my stress levels. With the Escitalopram work for me.

I just started to take citalopram for my anxiety, but pills haven't made any change yet. Guess, I just need to wait a bit? When you have anxiety do you feel like that all the time?
