My father has been told that the flap in his throat that goes to his lungs and stomach isn't working properly and therefore his food is going into his lung partially causing chronic pnemonea. Hi Concerned,

It's called the epiglottis.

It depends upon what is wrong with the epiglottis.  Has there been nerve damage or an infection?

I would suggest you seek a second opinion from an otolaryngologist, an ear, nose, throat doctor.

Good luck.
