Hey guys. I had the same symptoms as some of you. Constant burning sensation in the upper esophagus, almost like heart burn. Nothing would make it go away. Finally went to the Gastro Dr and got scoped, ultra-sound and blood work. The Dr. found an Esophogeal Ulcer.

I was taking DOXYCYCLINE HYCLATE before bed each night. He thinks that the pill caused my ulcer and suggested that you only take such a pill during the day when you will be upright for some time and a full glass of water. Still awaiting a few more test to rule anything else out. But please use caution and don't take this pill before bedtime. Go see a DR. if you think you might have an ulcer in your throat. They are serious!!

I just about fell out of my chair. I did a search on "pill stuck in my throat for days" and this forum came up... I'm taking Doxycyline, and the sensation of a pill being stuck in my throat has been going on for about 5 days. It's extremely painful to swallow--exactly what's been described here. Has anyone else had this go away on its own?

Hello, I don't know if this question was answered. Some of the serious side effects to taking this medication is chest pains, trouble breathing, throat pain, and trouble swallowing. It takes a whole for this pill to take its course for a little thing. I found out the hard way. I took it at night, before bed, and had the worst chest pain and problem breathing ever. Just a tip, take it at least 2 hours before bed and sit up straight (trust me) or stand. Just don't lay down o_0.

I have a pill that I have to take everyday, well when I took it this morning when I woke up, I felt fine for about 5-10 minutes and then I noticed that it felt like someone is stabbing me in the chest! Also, it's like a burning feeling as well..
I tried eating AppleSauce and I drank a lot of water but IT'S STILL THERE! It is starting to scare me! I even threw up a little bit and it was like a foam texture (It looked like I didn't touch it) ANd it was blue (The color of my pill) I don't know if that was a good thing or not. But I am in so much pain right now! AHHH HELP!

My feeling developed to constant throat pain and is reduced in an apparently strange way: "watering" the openings of my eustacian tubes through the nose, for example using a neti pot.

My explanation: The cause of the feeling/pain was not visual on x-ray, CT, MR and so on. The only thing which is painful but does not show on "pictures" is air. The air comes from the mouth while swallowing small amount of liquid or just salliva. The qlue: While swallowing, the soft palate rais and normally opens up the eustachian tubes. When these fail to open, the excessive air in mouth while swallowing, goes to "pharynx" instead of elevating into the eustachian tubes and middle-ear.

I have found several people writing about similar problems in different fora, but no doctors understands it because the person having the problem, don't report having fever, clogged ears or can point to a certain happening, causing the problem.

(I'm intrested talking to others having this problem. Hotmail-adress with this nickname)

I am going through the exact same thing. I was perscribed Doxycycline for acne. I am a healthy 31 year old. I took the perscription for 4-5 days 2x per day. Once in morning, once before bed. After 4 days of taking the pill I was in the ER for chest pains, lump in my throat, increased heartrate and difficulty breathing. Come to find out, you are not to lye down for 1 hour after taking Doxycycline as it disolves in your esophagus causing damage to the esophagus. I went to dr. yesterday for follow up as I have now been off Doxycycline for 2 weeks and still have the symptoms. The dr. thinks it could also be causing my anxiety. So you are not alone. It is the medicine! Stop taking it and contact your dr. If you have any other questions about the side effects google it. I am now being treated for IBS, acid reflux, indigestion and anxiety to try to get rid of the damage. Next is a CT scan.... The medicine is not worth it.

I took an ibuprofen 800 mg 2 nights ago last night it started with the burning sensation in my chest,it radiatedto my upper back in between my shoulder blades, then it felt like heartburn, but wjhen I went to drink my coffee this morning it was burning like there was a pill stuck in it. Nothing and I mean noting is helping and it's been going on for 24 hours. The worst thing I could have done is start looking things up online. What do I do for this??

Thank goodness I am not the only one experiencing adverse reactions to taking my daily pills. The problem began to become critical after I began taking mega doses of B12 for a seriously low B12 blood-work result around April 2012. Since June my blood results for B12 are well above the low-end critical range, but my primary care doctor wanted me to continue at a relatively high daily B12 dose even though I am now within normal range. I made the decision to stop the supplement intake around 5-6 days ago due to serious side effects becoming ever more difficult to cope with, one of them being serious esophageal problems-burning/irritation. Plus for the past several days a good size circular red spot has appeared on my neck where the pills tend to lodge in my throat. I feel like I am dying, that is how painful my esophagus feels and the spot on my neck is very sensitive. As of today, I will not be taking any of my pills-none are for life threatening health issues. This is very strange so many people are having similar side effects as others based on the pills they are taking. I have found some relief for the stomach upset and throat pain by drinking peppermint tea, but one of my doctors advised against it. Does anyone have any suggestions for relief? Is peppermint tea acidic?? I am mid fifties in age with semi-good health.

I had this same experience and had the good fortune to go to an amazing group here in Georgia that uses all kinds of modalities to treat many different symptoms. I was seeing Dr. Andrew Potter because of back issues (years off and on) and mentioned these symptoms to him thinking he would not be able to help (he's a Chiropractor). He said he sees this all the time. HUH?? Patients come to him who have been told it's GERD, acid reflux, indigestion, etc. and they have been on various meds for weeks/months with no relief. He said it's a hiatal hernia and it's inflammed (not enough that anything would ever show up on a scan, etc.) but he poked around in my stomach, etc. and after two sessions, my symptoms are GONE. He asked me if I had eaten anything different recently (like more alcohol, coffee, sugar, etc.) which could have triggered the symptoms and I had - Labor Day weekend at the beach - had more wine than I would ever normally drink, a rich dessert (which I would generally NOT have), etc. I have NEVER had these symptoms in my life and, interestingly, my internist (who I had called) said that I should try one of the OTC Prilosec type drugs. Good thing I went to see Doc Potter first.......
