I have a friend that is taking beta blockers for his therapy. He suffers from high blood pressure and need his meds regularly. I have similar problems, but in my case, there are some other issues too. I have never been prescribed with beta blockers and I would like to know for what conditions are beta blockers prescribed?
The most important indication for prescribing beta blockers is arterial hypertension. Their advantage is that they only decrease the elevated blood pressure and do not affect the normal one. It is also used with angina pectoris, and here these meds increase the tolerance to physical strain, reduce the risk of angina pectoris attacks too. There are also heart arrhythmia, hyperthyroidism and several others conditions that beta blockers might be used for.
