I am so glad I found this discussion. I recently had my 1st HPV shot, on July 22nd. My last period ended July 3rd, and I had sex (protected) on July 7th. I was due for my period yesterday/today (more or less, I've never been regular) But it hasn't shown up. When I had the shot, I got really sick from it incredibly dizzy, nauseous, and sick. But there was no mention by the nurses of any effect on my period. This aggravates me because it seems like many women are having this problem, and honestly the mention of it could save a lot of stress. I have yet to take a pregnancy test, because after reading this I'm going to wait a few more days to see if my period comes.

Good luck to all the ladies on here, and I'm hoping this doesn't affect my fertility in the future!

I also have experienced the late period. I received my shot on August 4, 2010, and my last period was on July 14, 2010. It is now August 14, 2010 and I haven't gotten it yet. It is now 32 days since my last period and that is VERY strange for me. I always start between 26-28 days. I was also given birth control on the same day to start it whenever my next period came, but like most of you how the hell am I supposed to do that? Also I'm from New Jersey and when I went in it was only to have a pap smear because I haven't had one since I was 16, and I am now 20, the gyno that I went to pretty much refused to give me one because she stated that there was a new law passed that a female has to be 21 now to have a pap unless there is probable cause. Well, I come from a long line of women in my immediate family that have had hysterectimies* (sorry for spelling) before they we're 30. Including my mother's mother who had her's at the age of 24. They had to have these because of pre-cancerous cells that were present and endometriosis as well. So... I thought that was probable cause enough to get checked, but apparently not. Plus I am married, so she knew I was sexually active. She pretty much told me that this gardasil shot was the best thing for me and that I should have it done asap.. so I did. The shot hurt but I've felt no side effects besides the feeling of being pregnant. Tired, moody, tender breasts, etc. I was going to get a HPT tomorrow when my husband returns from a trip, but from the looks of it I'm just going to schedule an appointment with my doctor and explain what is going on with me. I am also on Nexium with stomach problems, like heartburn and acid reflux. Have only been on that for about a week now but I know for a fact that it's not the medicine that is causing late period.
I'm just really concerned about this now because of all the women who are experiencing this as well. I guarantee that I will NOT be getting the second or third shot and hopefully this will help with something.. I don't know what to do anymore... I'm only 20 years old and I really wanted to be able to have children with my husband.. what if this hurts my chances? I don't think I'll be able to live with myself I let this gyno that I didn't even know and wouldn't even do something that was her job talk me into getting this vaccine.. Having children was what I planned on doing for the rest of my life.. being a home maker and what if I can't..? You only get 1 life to live and if I can't live it how I wanted .. who's fault is it?

I can't be exactly sure, but based on some women's experiences, it seems as though Gardasil may have some side effects to your period. In my case, I got my period early after I got the shot. To make a long story short, I went to the doctor for a physical exam because I hadn't had one in awhile, and I also wanted to get the Gardasil vaccine before I became sexually active (I'm only 17 years old, but still). I did some blood tests and urine tests, and a week after they called saying the results showed that I had blood in my urine. They thought I had some type of infection so they did a culture exam (a more precise urine test), and then I got my period the same day (whice was October 7th) even though I wasn't expecting it until at least the 20th. This worried me VERY much because I NEVER get my periods early. In fact, they're usually a few days late. And it was very strange because it didn't even feel like I had my period since it was so light, and since I didn't have any PMS symptoms or anything. But anyway, today the results from the second urine test came back, and everything is fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. But it still leaves me with the question of what caused the bleeding, and it makes me wonder what affect Gardasil can have on your menstrual cycle.

Another case was of a friend of mine. She's my age and normally had a regular menstrual cycle, always writes down when she gets her period, and has never had sex before or anything. After her first Gardasil shot, she didn't get her period for 3 months. I'm no expert, but it doesn't seem like these changes in cycles after getting the vaccine can be a coincidence.

My suggestion to you would be to go to your doctor and explain your worries, and let the doctor make the judgement of what you should do. If you run tests and such and nothing out of the ordinary is found, then I wouldn't worry too much. Perhaps wait until you get your last Gardasil shot and if things are still strange then at that point I'm sure a doctor can help figure out if anything is wrong.

Hi Ladies!
I had my second Gardasil shot about three weeks ago (hurt so bad!) and am now anxiously awaiting the arrival of my period. I was supposed to start 4 days ago and didn't. Usually my period is very timely, and now? Well, now I'm stuck waiting and praying I'm not pregnant. I have had intercourse since the injection however, this was protected sex. I haven't told any of my friends, family, or boyfriend about my concerns as of yet. I'm going to take a pregnancy test today :/. By reading all of your posts it's seeming more and more likely that I am NOT pregnant. We all have the same issues and all of your descriptions fit exactly to what i'm feeling.
-tired and mopey
-cramps as if you were on your period
-the norms for you period week (including face breakouts and moodiness)
Hopefully todays test will settle all of my anxieties and worries! I'll write back as soon as I find out, whether It be good or bad news!

Hello Ladies,
I have as well as almost everyone on this forum taken the gardisil shot. I have only taken the first one which was at the beginning of October. I have not had my period since mid September. I definitely will not be taking the following 2 shots. It hurt my arm as well and it was tender for 2 weeks. Me being in the health field, I am very upset for these symptoms not being addressed at time of the shot. I will be contacting news stations to try and address this awful situation. I have been so scared as I am sexually active. I am 24, and cannot imagine the stress of you younger ladies on here. I do not recommend this shot to anyone!!! I really hope that we can make this well known to others so they don't have to go through the emotional roller coaster we have endured! I will keep posting as I attempt to make this a breaking story!

Oh good I found this! Same thing happened to me. I had my first shot in December and only had 2 days of very light bleeding. Which is unusual because my periods are up to 7 days and very heavy. Then it was time for the second shot and I still have not had a period. Now this is April and I have yet to get it. I did at home pregnancy test and went to a doc to do a urine sample. Both tests came out negative. I love how they DO NOT mention that at all! Just the fact that you can get dizzy and weak, possibly pass out or the shot might hurt. Never has the doctor NOR the nurse mentioned this no-period deal. Also apparently it might cause infertility. I say this is a dumb vaccine o.O

This happened to me as well! My period is SUPER regular. My period was 6 days late after the shot, though. I spent money on two pregnancy tests-both negative. I also spent money on tampons I did not need, because I was expecting it for so long. GAH. This was so stressful. Why don't they tell you about this!?!?!?! It is clearly a side effect.

This makes me feel some what better but I am still freaking out. I had my last shot June 22nd and I was suppose to start my period July 6th. It is August 5th and I still have not started my period. My boobs are "tender" or whatever and I have taken around 20 pregnancy tests, all negative. I don't know what to do!!! Is this the shot or something else

I had the Gardasil shot last Wednesday, the 14th of September 2011, while I was in school, and as a result I had to go home early because I felt highly nauseous-- as though I were in a dream. My arm hurt unbearably afterward, even having to remove my school jumper when I got home was a chore. Needless to say, I've been better. I also developed mild flu-like symptoms but they passed very quickly, about three or so days later.

I have to say that I am wholly disatisfied at the fact that having a delayed period was not mentioned in the booklet I was given at school. The symptoms described, after having the injection, were vague and slightly understated (nausea, headache, flu-like symptoms, that kind of thing). I mean, this is an injection to prevent a virus which leads to cervical cancer. Put two and two together, maybe, you know, cervical cancer relates to periods, as it's of the same area. Why, then, aren't women informed of this? That's the thought that hit me, with my period was three days late. It is now the 22nd of September, and my period was due on the 19th. So far, all I got were the merest dots of blood after using the toilet. Maybe this isn't a real cause for concern, as it has only really been three days, but, I still have period pains, and the sensation that I'm bleeding when I'm not. I've never had these problems before. And I have a feeling that I may not get my period for quite some time, either. I feel as though I've already had my period at this stage.

I've never had this injection before. Just after I had it, the nurse who administered it to me saw that I was pale, and I said that I felt faint. I had to have my head put between my knees, while the nurse fanned me with a clipboard. I had to rest for a while afterward, but eventually I had to go home because I was so weak, so weak that I was limping around trying to get to class!

Also, I have Diabetes Type One and Hypothyroidism, both of which can induce weakness at some point. The Gardasil shot probably did not help me in that respect, at all, but that's beside the point.

Overall, I didn't find that little booklet very comprehensive. Half of it was in English, half in Irish (I'm typing in Ireland here), and it was quite thin. I felt it was biased, more about trying to convince people about the benefits of the HPV Vaccine. I do not doubt that maybe some women have benefited from it thus far, but, my experience was more like a punch in the face. What a horrible thing to leave out such a significant side effect. I don't plan on protesting to kingdom come about this but regardless I am not a happy camper and would have preferred to have had this information rather than feeling paranoid and tense over my period not arriving on time
