Has anyone had any diagnosis of the cause of this buzzing we all seem to have? I've had it for about 10 yrs or more and thought it was due to my medication but have recently found out that its not and its getting worse. I do have days where I don't have any but then the next day I have them all day long. It starts in my head and goes all the way to my toes. It affects my eyes and motor functions but just for seconds. I am so glad to know I'm not the only one that has this problem.

It may be Lyme Disease- don't mess with regular labs as they only test elisa- worhtless- Use IgeneX lab and get a western blot blood test.

My doctor said she thinks it has to do with an injury to my neck and is sending me to a neurologist. We'll see where that takes me.

I think people are discussing a few different symptoms. One of a buzzing sensation, another of a pulsing sensation in the head, others of entire body impulses. It may be hard to lump all these symptoms into one possible remedy or cause.
I have experienced a problem that is similar to some mentioned here. Mine is more of a pulsing sensation that seems to start in the front part of my brain and goes through my eyes. It doesn't occur very often, but when it does it will go on for several minutes and the pulsing sensation will happen every few seconds.
I seem to be able to prevent mine from occurring and think it is related to the following. I've listed them in the order of importance.
1. Caffeine intake
2. Lack of sleep
3. Looking at a digital screen (tv, computer, ipod, etc...) for an extended length of time
4. Stress
5. Taking medications
If you do not want to seek a doctor's advice, or have not had success with one, I would make the following recommendations.
1. Cut out all high intake caffeine drinks (coffee, tea, coke), and drink water instead. This will take days if not weeks.
2. Try to get more sleep even if you are only able to sleep in one of day a week, take naps...it all helps.
3. Try to cut down on use of computers and tvs by taking breaks from them. Close your eyes and rest them.
4. Go for walks, exercise, meditate...try to do things to get tuned into your body. Try to relax.
5. Try to eat well balanced meals with plenty of water intake.
There sound like simple solutions, but they may help resolve some of your issues.
Good luck, and GOD bless.

Wow - Awesome. I have been getting this "buzz" feeling in my head since I was a kid, I am 28 years old now. Growing up I didn't think it was weird until one day I mentioned it to someone, "it's like when your head has that buzzing feeling" and they looked at me weird. I knew then that it was abnormal. I started asking peers and teachers around me if they knew what I was talking about and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. In my mid-twenties I started going to a steady doctor and I asked him about this symptom. He had never heard about it either. A few years later I saw a neurologist and he chalked it up to nothing but also had never heard of it. It was so strange but I didn't let it bother me since no one else really saw it as a huge issue. I've always described it as feeling/sounding like a "CD rewinding." Kind of like when you hit "stop" on a CD player and it makes that ziiiip noise. It's really great to see that other people have this feeling and describe it as a buzz/electric jolt etc. It's definitely comforting.

I get the buzzing a lot too, though as some of the previous people mentioned, it seems to occur primarily in three situations: 1) some medication withdrawals , 2) when I'm dehydrated or haven't eaten in a while, and 3) when I'm really tired. It has happened occasionally when I don't think any of those apply, but not enough that I went to the doctor.

It's really strange, I def didn't expect to find so many people here with these same symptoms. Not sure what happened, not sure if it was a dream but I had come back in I think this morning after letting the dog out to use the bathroom and went to lay back down on the courch to sleep and almost as soon as I started to lay down my head started buzzing, ringing, I don't even know it was like a variety of sounds going all at once. Virbrations, buzzing, ringing, static. I don't even know how to explain it. It's never happened before, this was the first time so I can't say it doesn't scare me. When it started happening, don't know where the bright idea came from but I stood up, felt disoriented and dizzy so I changed my mind a layed down again. Almost as soon as I layed down I feel asleep. Almost like the shock if thats what you would all call it, kinda relaxed my body or something. I then woke up like nothing had ever happened that's kinda what gave me the idea that maybe it was a dream.
Many of you say that when this occurs at the time you were low on sleep. We just ended finals week where I would be up until two or three in the morning every morning and get up at 8 or nine. So lack of sleep maybe, but it's really not any different from the rest of my life. Even as a toddler and an infant I would be up all night and still not sleep the next morning. But I guess it could still be a prime cause.
But on the idea of switching meds being a reason. Im rarely ever I'll to have meds. I just got over my first stomach flu in years, but all I took for that was pepto. Maybe that could have been partial, I haven't been sick like that since I was very young, so this was kinda an off season for me.
Also been having issues with extremely mild headaches, nothing that really bothers me just more of an annoyance. Maybe that is something also.
But like I said, this was the first time I have ever experienced such an odd thing, other then getting really dizzy for no reason. I'm kinda worried it it occurs again. If anyone knows what it is or what to do about it please let me know, it kinda worries me. Especially with how much trouble you all get from your doctors over it.Code:

I'm so glad - and now sort of scared - that I stumbled onto this site. I have tolerated and ignored ringing in my ears for many years. I have always attributed it to taking too much aspirin in my twenties. However, sometimes, like now, I experience that same buzzing in my head. It's like someone else described it as a Star Wars-like sabre sound -- yes, exactly! Thank you! I have previously mentioned the ear ringing to my gp, and gotten blown off like so many of you. I agree about being your own advocate. Gotta go now. Gotta make an appointment..........................

I have been experiencing "Brain Buzz" for quite some time. I have Multiple Sclerosis & these symptoms come along with the disease. As part of my treatment for Multiple Sclerosis, I have been prescribed Cymbalta (to help with peripheral neuropathy and anxiety over self-injections). I have been on Cymbalta for about 4 years now and have decided to get off of it for awhile. My doctor & I have set up a very strict "step-down" process because being without Cymbalta increases the severity of brain-buzz. Your body goes through withdrawls any time you reduce/eliminate the intake of anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medications. I've been off of Cymbalta for a few weeks (after spending a month stepping down from it) and am still experiencing extreme brain-buzz. It's getting to the point that it's causing spasms & twitches throughout my body.
Definitely talk to a doc if you are experiencing these symptoms - they are real and they do interfere with your life.

After reading about everybody's experiences with this what I call an annoyance, I've noticed one thing that nobody else mentions. I should mention that I have been dealing with brain buzzing or electric pulsing since I was a teenager and now am in my fifties, so it can't be to serious. I've noticed over time that the symptoms and intensity increase any time my body temp starts to rise. An example is when I take a nap on a electric blanket and wake up overheated. The pulses are very intense and rapid for 5 or 10 minuets and then calm down but never go away. They also increase right before I come down with a fever from a cold or flu. It's gotten so I can tell when I'm going to be sick before any symptoms show up. Just to compare myself with people with this aliment, I don't drink caffeine, am in great health, low blood pressure and don't take any medicine except vitamins. I would describe the more intense pulses as the feeling you get while sitting in a silent room and being jolted by a sudden noise. I'm sure some can relate.
