Hi all, I have studied this problem and to me it may seem that for some it might be a lack of the serotonin level in the brain.

This normally effects your feeling of happiness, lack of sleep or bad sleep and also appetite. Don't know if this is helpful for some of you, but might be worth checking out.

I been having these sensations, it kinda feels like "rice krispes" in milk....no noise just the sensation, feels like a buzz and moving around in the back of my brain (neck).  It will intensify and go to the front of my head (forehead).  I thought maybe it was like a anyersium or something else.  It has been going on for about 2 months.  I feel like I have bugs inside my head, and moving around.  Anyone get any concrete answers?  I told my husband today and I think he thought I was nuts.  I do have anxiety attacks and depression, and taking meds for these.

SSRI discontinuation syndrome, also known as SSRI withdrawal syndrome or SSRI cessation syndrome, is a syndrome that can occur following the interruption, dose reduction, or discontinuation of SSRI (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor) or SNRI antidepressant medications. The condition often begins between the time of reduction in dosage or complete discontinuation,[specify] depending on the elimination half-life of the drug and the patient's metabolism.

Hi, I have just came back from Ibiza yesterday after taking Ecstacy for a couple of days. Since being back I have had the same problem, when i shut my eyes i get this surge of electricity or buzz around the back of my eyes. Lack of sleep or any other drug which may cause you to stay awake seems to be a common cause. Various drugs which cause you to stay awake, even caffine may play a part in this buzz you are feeling. Try getting some normal sleep and having a few days off work. It has worked for me.

I also have tinitus and and this odd brain sensation and a few other strange things that I have been getting since a kid. Unfortunately, no one really knows anything about a lot of the stuff. I know there are certain frequency treatments for tinitus though.

i've had all these systems since i was like 15 or 16 years old, they used to be soo bad that i'd jerk or have a spasm.....now its just slight shocks from top of head down my neck and sometimes all through my spine...never took meds or anything till i was 19, started drinking at 20, psych at 22.....the issue has been here the whole time....im military now, and had a close encounter with a rocket in afghanistan...while the concussion left my mind jarred i felt nothing...but now i have the "fuzzies" every second of every day...its like a wave...i asked my primary provider she dismissed it, my psych dr laughed, and my therapist said its in my head...
maybe we should form a group and force them to realize we're not crazy, and we're not makin this s""t up....maybe then they'll help figure out whats goin on....

These are symptoms of spiritual things.  Doctors will never give you a good answer.  Pray to Jesus and pray some more and you will be fine.  "Ask and you shall receive.  Seek and you will find.  Knock and the door will be opened."  (Gospel of Luke)

There is a sleep disorder called sleep parayisis which causes buzzing sounds in the head when sleeping. Often is frightening but most of time is harmless. If it happens too much and ruins your sleep, anti anxiety medication like Zoloft or catalapram have been known to lesson the occurrences.

I am 60+ and have had brain zaps most of my life, as has my older sister.  Over the years I have tried to get info, asked drs, and googled, to no avail. I had been looking for the wrong search terms, but I just had a strong one and googled " electrical surge in brain" and found this and other pages.

Ours are very brief, a fraction of a second, like a light bulb that goes zap as it burns out.  We might have one every few years, then to in a week.  It is rarely more than that. I could be reading, daydreaming, going to sleep....standing, sitting, lying down.  I take Zoloft now, but also had these ages go, way before Zoloft.  I rarely drink anything with caffeine, but did have a coke  today.

A few weeks or a month ago I was in bed and and felt/heard the surge/shock go instantly from one side of my brain to the other.  Tonight, I am lying in bed and felt the strongest one ever (for me), one that made cry out and my head jerked once, just for an instant.

None of these has had lasting effects, no headache, only a Brief memory loss if that.

Mostly this has been a curiosity not concern, but I don't like the strong one I just had.

I recently started experiencing this symptom.  I just Googled it at came upon this thread.  After reading a few of the entries, I'm confident the onset of these sensations has increased since I completely stopped taking genaric Prozak. I didn't quit cold turkey.  I reduced my intake gradually over a few months.   I can safely rule out tumor or any other brain abnormality as I had an MRI about 3 months ago. I'm sure my seratonins are a bit messed up too, but I'm not going to stress about it.  I like the previous description comparing it to Star Wars light sabre...It's perfect!

I have been having vertigo for a while now, at least a year or so. It only seems to happen at night when I'm standing in an ill-lit area. Tonight I was washing the dishes and cleaning the stove when out of no where it felt like someone attached battery cables to my temples. My hole head started buzzing like an electrical charge which seemed to rise in intensity very fast. I thought for a second that I might pass out but, it passed as quickly as it came. Kind of freaked me out a bit. I typed in the buzzing and this was the first message board I saw. I don't think I have a sleep disorder, although due to back pains I have not been getting great sleep for about a month. When I was a kid I sleep walked a lot. I don't think I have narcolepsy as far as I am familiar with the symptoms of it. I have been taking thyroxing for a few months for hypothyroidism. I don't know if they are related.
