Updates to my search in helping this problem.
First, to recap my issues and my personal info:
I am a 30 year old male, who has the intense but brief electrical shock sensation in my head, that blurs my vision, and makes my palms sweaty. This generally happens only once, but sometimes it happens 5-10 times in a row. After having several, i feel sluggish, my brain feels soggy, i am irritable, and uneasy. Sometimes I feel like I'm about to have a full blown seizure or go unconscious but that has never happened. During these experiences, I have sensitivity to light and sound. They generally occur while I'm in class, where there are a lot of bright lights, or a lot of loud noises.
Unlike some people posting here, this is NOT caused by getting off of a medication, like an anti-depressent. I do not do drugs, and I rarely drink. I don't want this issue to be confused with withdrawal.
Like many people here, lack of sleep, and caffeine make these symptoms occur more often.
I've had an MRI very recently. My brain is healthy, no issues there. I have an EEG in a couple months.
Okay,, so my neurologist says i am either having migraines (without the pain) or mild seizures. It honestly seems like it could be a minor seizure. He wants to put me on a prescription Depakote, to take daily, to prevent the shock sensations. HOWEVER, i want to rule out everything before I start taking such a serious medication.
I'm trying something I believe no one has mentioned - seeing a chiropractor. I have normally seen a chiropractor fairly consistent, however, now that I think of it, when I wasn't seeing one and getting adjusted regularly, these shock sensations came back. Now worse than ever. My neck and back have been out of whack lately, and I've just been dealing with the discomfort. I can tell my neck issue has been causing tension in my neck and head. It is no mistake that having a misaligned neck/back can restrict blood flow as well as pinch nerves, thus restricting electrical flow.
Not everyone having these issues may have neck or back discomfort, but could still need adjustments. I highly recommend giving it a try.
I had my first adjustment today, since around 7 months ago. They did Xrays, and discussed the blood flow and nervous system, and how my symptoms very well could be because of my neck. Today is the first day I made it through all my classes, through all my other routines, WITHOUT the shock sensation.
I will keep posting my results here. It is early, so I don't want to jump to conclusions. I just want everyone who has this issue to be aware of other possible solutions.
Take care!
Eli

When I was a teenager I got a jolt when i went down in the basement to open the frig door and I was standing on siment floor with no shoes on, every since then once in a while when I go to sleep I get these zaps throuhg my head. I told the doctor about these and they shake there shoulders and say they never hear of it. So know I know I am not crazy.
The only thing is now I am 51yrs old and had a bad fall and cracked my forehead and have a bad concussion. I am finding I am getting the zaps alot when I go to sleep, can anyone help me or will this pass????

I know you might not believe me but I had this for years and couldn't figure it out. It was a ghost that maybe was trying to hold me down not really sure. I knew when it would happen. I would hear wind then as you described it. Once while taking a nap I was in a sleep state but aware of everything around me. I could see a shadow of someone coming and when that being came to me I was able to grab it and not let it go for awhile and it has never bothered me again. I have never had such a crazy experience in my life and would not probably beleive it, if it didn't happen to me. Hope you have been able to figure out your problem.

Hi,
I had a lot of ear wax impacted in both ears and now have the same buzzing feeling in the worse of the 2 ears. Suggest you read the information about tinnitis on the following website
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/tutorials/tinnitus/htm/_yes_50_no_0.htm
It really explains what can cause tinnitis and what symptoms are experienced. However, you still need to go and see your GP who should refer you to an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist. If the waiting list is months' long, it's advisable to get the GP to refer you to a private ENT specialist. It cost me £180 to see an ENT professor who cleared out all the ear wax in 20 minutes - best thing I ever did. I'm hoping the tinnitis settles down in time. Good luck

WOW!!! I thought I was going crazy when I typed this in the search google box.. but thank god im not the only one.. IT has just started to me.. a few weeks ago. I will be sitting in the car. taking a shower, eating an apple and it will happen. Like my brain is getting a small amount of electric pulse to it..almost like im in this earth quake but only I can feel it.. I was at the store buying food and I had to hold on to the shopping cart for a second because I thought I was gunna fall down.. Its been getting worse like every other min.. I made a docter appointment but never went because I just had no idea how to tell him about this.. But now I see that I am not the only one.. I honesly just want it to stop.. It gives me motion sickness.. and I soo tired all the time. But the wierd part is.. I brought it up to my boyfriend and I was sooo nervous because i didnt want him to think im nuts.. and it just started happening to him a few days after it started happening to me, we both described it exactly the same.. I thought we were going crazy.. we asked other people if they felt it to.. and they said no and looked at us like we were nuts.. I just want it to stop.. I cant take it any more, has any one figured out how to make it stop???

It stopped. Now about a few times a day I get a hair raising feeling in the exact same spot. I happens mostly at work
and when I am in front of the computer. The buzzing in my ears or brain becomes deafening sometimes too but that happens a lot even at night. I sometimes feel like it's this gut nervous feeling maybe because my body is telling
me something I should be listening too? Like when one of the guys from work walks by it could be a response to something my gut is telling me. (I work in IT and one of the guys is a secret creeper). I have regarded it as the dog that raises his hair when they sense something is wrong. Otherwise I have to think it may be the alternative and most of us on here are having petit mal seizures and/or parasites which may be causing them.
Do any of you own cats or dogs? Do any of you take vitamins and minerals or supplements besides SSRI's?

I have been having similar sensations these last few months too, they were so bad that I rushed to the ER thinking I was dying. Before the "electric" feelings started I had an initial attack in October that made my brain feel like it went numb/buzzy, but also experienced my brain "fall asleep", like in the way your leg or foot might fall asleep, and now experience strong electric shock feelings or a "jolt", and experience them more often at night. My doctors have yet to figure out what is wrong with me, but I did research and asked them to check my orthostatic heart rates to check for a type of dysautonomia called POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), which I do have, but my "trigger" for this condition remains unknown (POTS is usually a secondary condition). I was wondering if you have Postural Tachycardia as well (it usually starts in your teen years, and is most often found in women), its easy to see if you do, does your heart rate jump by >40bpm from laying down to standing? (my laying down heart rate is usually around 80-85, but is 120-150 standing), it would be interesting to see if my "trigger" is a condition both you and I have, and if you have POTS as well... thank you for your time! (:

I have had a buzzing electric sensation from my upper neck all the way up and around my head to lower fore head/eyebrow level. It is only in the region of my brain and is constant without stopping. This has been happening for the last 7 days and I plan on going to the hospital to order a CT scan. (You have the right to have it done regardless of what some quack doctor says too) I have also been diagnosed with PTSD and TBI.

I have vibrations in legs, arms, chest, eyes .. the whole lot.... as wel for over 14 years....When I go to sleep i also experience brain vibrations (It feels like your bed is vibrating)..I have been tested by neurologists, nothing wrong..all is in the green......Blood also tested.... nothing wrong..On July the 20th 2007 I experienced something very bizar..... I felt like i was in an earthquake.... A high frequent vibration went through myentire body.... the walls of my appartment seem to become liquid..... It took 3 seconds.. I was watching tv and thrown out of my chair....I ran out to the balcony to see if anybody had experienced the "earthquake" but no........ There had never been an earthquake..According to my search.... It was the spiritual body addressing the fysical body directly, skipping the energetic body (Chakras).what ever the reason may be..March 2012 I went to see a doctor in traditional chinese medicine ... He said..... During my study I have read about thisbut I never had a patient with these symptoms (not in 25+ years). Also.... It is as if the body is able to restore, heal itself..Greetings,Rik..... keep on looking for answers

yes it happens to me when I move my eyes and it seems like the buzz is in my ears. what the heck? I had taken Zoloft for many years and recently stopped it. At first I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms but I think this buzzing is related to stopping the zoloft.

I have had the same thing going on since mid- December and have only had one doctor's opinion, but I think I have Vestibular Migraines. If you haven't Googled it, I suggest you do. It seems to fit the patterns that we all have. I also have migraines, vertigo, and my symptoms seem worst during or pre-menstruation. Hope this helps.

Did you ever find out what this is? You are the only person who has described what I have been having for the last 4 years. Please let me know. Whaen I have told doctors - even neurologist about it, they have never heard of it and have no ideas what could be causing it. Thank you, K

In my case the buzzing and the feeling that electricity is bouncing through my brain started some time ago. Funny part is that it's worst at night and in the early mornings. I wake up from it and sometimes can't go back to sleep. I am fighting this since more than a year now off and on. During the day it continues with tingling in my brain and dizziness. My doctor associates these symptoms with a Vestibular Neuritis that I must have gotten some time ago. He did some tests and found that the vestibular nerve on my left side is hypoactive (in my case only working 60%). That happens either through a Labyrinthitis or Vestibular Neuritis. There is no medication, but physical therapy is available which is called VRT Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy. This is not a one or two week fix, it can take a long time till functions are decompensated by the brain and symptoms vanish. In your cases I would definitely see a neurologist "and" an ENT if you don't get the right answers from the others. Also doctors specializing in Sports Medicine know a lot more about this than any other physician. Vestibular.org has also a lot of information.

Thank you! I was worried I could be 'cooking' a tumor in my brain! Funnily enough, the buzz started just a few weeks after I started meditating and taking steps towards decalcifying my pineal gland! I'm really happy to find that it is working! As a brazilian, since childhood I have been exposed to fluoride and all sorts of chemicals that are known to calcify the pineal gland. I wasn't sure I could make it but there you go! Just a few weeks after irregular training I have now the answer to my uncertainties... it works! Love to all! Let's make it together!
