I have found apple cider vinegar & garlic has helped. Also drinking a glass of water before urinating has relieved the pain. I think it is uric acid crystals - so if we hold too long we have no more water to dilute the uric acid in our system and it creates the pain. That is also why it is sometimes in the mornings as we wake up. I have also read that using aspirin can enhance the pain, so I have switched to Advil. The same goes for anti-acids against heartburn and some blood pressure medication (as it often contains a form of aspirin).
Finally, a diet low in purine (high fibre, broccoli) and minimizing bananas, avos, spinach, red meat, some sea food as well as all fine flour (cakes, pastries, muffins) has also helped me a lot.
If those are your favourites there are natural remedies like Devil's Claw & Burdock Root (although I have not tried them) and finally medication called probenecid, sulfinpyrazone & allopurinol.
Hope this helps you too.

I'm a 53 yr old male that this is also happening too. It started for me a month ago. I have problem with kidney stones, high blood pressure, had several spine fusions in the past. I told my chronic pain doctor about and he has no idea. People are not crazy it is a real issue. I though maybe I have a neurological disorder. There has to be a common thread that links us all together? My doctor said he would follow up and talk to a urologist. If anything comes of it I will post. I can't afford a battery of tests.

Me too! It happens to me especially when I have a UTI. My OBGYN never heard of it. For me it's an indicator that something is wrong. Thank you everyone for posting! I thought I was the only one!
