Hello, if I use a hand sanitzer on my penis after unprotected sex, will that give me any level of safety against catching a STD or is it just a waste of time?
Hi there
No, it cannot. Hand sanitizer can cause more inflammation and actually make you more at risk for STD (including HIV) infection. Don't do that again. Soap and water is your friend.
Direct application of sanitizer has actually been studied and, if anything, appears to increase risk of a few STDs because of its drying and irritating effects.
Use condoms. Good luck
I've participated in several drug studies the most notable of which was Pfizer's Illuminate study which was abruptly cancelled, but I have to wonder who the volunteers were for that test. I can't picture me smearing hand sanitizer all over my penis for what --- several weeks? Did they leave it there and roll the foreskin back over it? I still remember the time I forgot to rinse off the soap during a shower and rolled it back over it. That was at least 40 years ago. LOL
Interesting.... you would think that a hand sanitizer that claims to be able to kill 99% of germs and is safe to use on your hands would be able to offer some level of protection of killing any STD on the surface of your penis and not be so harsh to hurt anything. My penis is cut, not uncut so not sure if that would make any difference. You say that using a hand sanitizer can cause penis inflammation on the outside. Would this be temp or longer term? Would the benefit of using a hand sanitizer outweigh the risk of inflammation if you don't do unprotected sex very often? On a side note, would rubbing alcohol of at least 70% offer any more protection or would it be in the same class as hand sanitizer? Ok, thankyou for your help and info. It just seems like something that would kill germs/std on the outside while at the tip and inside should be cleaned out after you cum and then pee.
Please read my post again, I specifically mentioned NOT to use hand sanitizer on penis. If you have a doubt, consult a doctor
ok, got it. what about rubbing alcohol? Only reason I ask about that is a lot of AMP places, the girl will either spray your penis with rubbing alcohol or put it in a washcloth then clean your penis with it.
Rubbing alcohol applied to the penis feels great if you don't rub it in. It feels cold at first, then sort of warm and tingly. I use it to clean off my glans before I masturbate. It leaves it super clean and dry with nothing sticky left. Just right for dry rubbing.
I just can't see what your saying or even talking about, are you a graduated from the one week internet course ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of web addresses is not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use doctor or something with a print out doctorate?? ... It kills 99.9% so it works on your hands but not your penis? That's like saying it works on your thumb but not your fingers.... Any smart person can put two and two together here.. I think my neighbor Peter would even get it. Joe not so much.. I did it, rubbed it all over "carefully" after sex with a VERY cute blonde. Tipsy skinny college chicks, need I say more lol.. Hand sanitizer burns like hell for about 2 minutes, then it gets warm like you pissed your pants or something and stays that way for like 15 minutes tops.. Never got it in the 'ol pee hole, imagine it would hurt a lot.. I'd rather go do what I did then "ask a doctor"... I mean come on, what's a doctor going to say "Yeah man, do it" so you can sue them afterwards.. Think as a business person/partner rather then the doctor is your best friend Susie homemaker c**p.. They HAVE to say " Its bad idea"... I bet you Hand Sanitizer freakin works or at least helps, it would have to as it KILLS 99.9% and trust me you feel it working right away doing its thing, like a big giant killing spree orgy down there, you don't want to know, or maybe you do :) gigitty.. .. Note- I got 4 tiny red dots on foreskin head (I'm cut), pretty sure its like a very small razor bump rash, the dots are actually on the blood vessels so I keep googling and they say not a STD or HIV like its actually Balanitis.. Its not Balanitis as I'm in very good hygiene, I'm pretty sure its an irritation for the hand sanitizer. The bumps are non itchy and all red in color. So anybody doing this and have red bumps, your not alone. Till then, blue skies... -Glenn Quagmire
