I've been having a whoosing sound in my left ear that is in time with my pulse for about two months. Not constantly, and not only at night either. On top of that, sometimes when I move my head, I also get a 'squeeky' noise in the same ear. This started just before I developed a groin abscess, although I can't that being more than a coincidence. The only thing is, I don't think it is caused by an infection as I was on strong antibiotics for a month for the abscess. Blood pressure is ok but could be better, towards the upper end of the normal range. Anyone else have squeeking sounds as well?

(((((Y'all))))) I'm so glad I'm not alone!!!
The past few months, I have had problems with my ears that comes and goes. Today's problem: clicking in the left ear in rhythm with my heartbeat. It's very annoying during the day, but this afternoon, my ear has been hurting. I did have my back adjusted by a chiropractor today, but when I've had this clicking before, I did not have adjustments. There have been no colds, no infections. I've heard the whooshing sound at night too and figured it was normal.
Here's the weird thing... after I came home, I had a big glass of water along with three ibuoprophen. I know I've been neglecting my water intake lately. Hmm, the clicking went away immediately (less than 10 minutes) and the headache (on the same side as the earache) is going away too. But now I've got ringing in the ear that started as the clicking stopped).

I concur that it is wonderful to hear that others have my same problem with the pulsing of the ear. It is only in the left ear and that is the side that I sleep on. What bothers me most is the times when I am reading and I am bothered by the pulse sound that interupts my concentration. I recently had my ears cleaned and huge chunks of ear wax came out. It was really frightening to see what came out of my ear. I don't know if all of it came out, but I wonder if it had something to do with it. Any and all replies would be helpful.

I've got the same issues. ENT says my ears are clean and I'm good to go. However, I have been told this condition could be related to TMJ. I didn't know I had this condition until I was 39 years old when I had a root canal and had to keep my mouth open for hours. In any case, you might want to rule that out. I have the clicking and pulsing and it's only on the left side. I also have a hard time scrubbing my neck because it "pulls" on something in my ear and feels like I've shoved a pencil in my ear. It seems this could all be related to TMJ.

Its not nothing, I have had it for years along with headaches and have finally just been diagnosed with Pseudotumor cerebri and have to have a shunt put in after years of undiagnosed pain.

I am very sorry to hear this. I think the forum is referring to just the sound (no associated pain or other symptms).

I was operated on for Mineures in 1992 and I still suffer from a wall of noise. It isn't just in my ears. It's in my whole head. I hear my heart beat and there is the sound of the whole of the Amazon jungle without the howler monkeys in there. The only relief that I have ever had was when I had my motorcycle and was riding it. That drowned out the subjective noise. I am a musician and this has nothing to do with that! I am sick of hearing that from everyone. The only thing that I have found that even comes close to making any sense to me is what I found out about Minor's syndrome. In 1996 Dr Lloyd Minor at John Hopkins hospital in Baltimore discovered that sometimes there is a blow-out in one or more of the three inner rings. They go in and fix the flat so to speak. It is a patch job. The only drawback is that it costs $75,000.00 for the operation. I repeat, I'm a musician! We don't have health insurance and I couldn't get it anyway after I already have beed diagnosed and operated on for the Mineures. All that I know is that I have been miserable ever since my Mineures operation. The blowout happened on the way home from the hospital after my operation. I sneezed and held it in and I could feel a stream of fluid squirt in my left inner ear. I contacted my doctor immediately and he said that that was impossible! He said that he didn't do patchup work. He is a research doctor who's family are all doctors and researchers. They have their own clinic in Memphis called Shey Clinic. He is Dr.John Shey III.

I have had tinnutis as long as I can remember - and it is especially bad for me once a room becomes quiet - or when I try to sleep. Believe it or not, I find the soft foam ear plugs actually make a difference. You get used to them after a short while and the sensation of the humming and pounding fading away is bliss!

Wise to start a diet. Start upping your water intake too. I use to bout dizzy spells when I got up too abruptly. DR said dehydration. Started drinking more water (presto, gone). . Everyone has this sound in the ear. Some can silence things around them enough to hear it. I've done it since age 3 (lay on side, earlobe folded over ear - serves as a stethoscope). I work out a lot, so I have a stronger pulse to pick up on. Some of us may be more anatomically sensitive then others.

You guys need to relax. I know what the problem is, and it isn't bad!!!!!
The swooshing sound is blood being channeled through your carotid artery which is normal. The heart beat again the pillow is the same thing. Relax.

Unfortunately it's down to the fact the that our ear drums aren't designed to withstand the rigours of modern day living. Take into account the average persons intake of television, ipod and general city noise, and you have the end result..... If you work in a factory, the average dB level is 80dB(reference google), That will affect your hearing over a period of time. An average concert is over 100dB(legal) and will affect your hearing instantly. over a period of time this will degrade your spectrum of hearing. Basically, we have tiny hairs on our ear drums(follicles) that perceive the spectrum of sound(20Hz -20,000 KHz) and once they are flattened by abuse of loud noises, we can no longer hear those frequencies and our ears symptomise that response by ringing. I.e. if you walk on an area of grass repetitively, the blades will no longer stand up(same principle) I highly recommend wearing ear-plugs as much as possible. If you work in a factory or any environment with loud noise(i.e. bar, airport), legally you are entitled to earplugs as it affects your personal health. It seems fickle, but it will save you years of sleepless nights in the future. If you suffer from Tinnitus, find an adequate solution, be it music at a low volume or doctors advice. It is not a laughing matter, people have committed suicide over the matter. There are solutions!!! Be Well!!!
