I had a pap smear on Monday, and my doctor called me yesterday saying that I needed to come in for a colposcopy because the results were abnormal. I initially scheduled it for Tuesday but switched it to today because 1. I didn't want to worry about it over the weekend and 2. My period is due, and I was afraid I'd get it and have to delay the test even longer. So, I went in today. It was painful, but quick. My doctor is great - very thorough, always explains what he's doing and why. I went back to work after the test, and after sitting at my desk for around 40 minutes, I started to feel what I assumed was the Monsel's being expelled. I went to the bathroom, and it was blood. I mean, it was gushing. I called my doctor, and I went back in. I used the restroom before I went into the exam room, and I started to pass pretty sizable clots, which he said was normal. He checked everything out, sponged it, applied more Monsel's, and asked when my period was due (like I said before, it was due soon). He said the bleeding was likely just my period (I was SO EMBARRASSED. At this point I had bled all over everything and it snowed here today, so I was keeping them in the office). It didn't even cross my mind because my period never starts off heavy like this. He said I was free to go, so I went home. After laying in bed for around 40 or so minutes, I felt the blood collecting on the pad, so I went to the bathroom. All of a sudden, I start passing these clots again. Then one round, thick, two-inch piece comes out. It's not flesh-colored, grainy or paper-like, like I've seen others on other sites describe. I usually get clots on the second day of my period, but nothing ever even close to being like this. At times, it feels like a small bowel movement. It's been like this for a couple of hours now, and it's so uncomfortable. Is this normal? Or, can a colposcopy trigger your period? Are period following the procedure likely to be heavier that normal? I want to call my doctor, but I also don't want to bother him again. Thank you, ladies!
