So I am wanting to know if anyone knows how to calculate insulin to carb ratios?  I want to find a chart on the internet or somewhere that tells you how to know how much insulin you are to take with how many carbohydrates that are eaten.  I don't think the doctor knows what he is doing about how to determine what is best for me.  He doesn't know how much insulin I need since he is not there with my all the time.  So I think if I have my own way of calulating and adding up what insulin needs are needed then I can give me what my body requires.  So what is the formula for figuring up carbs to insulin ratios?  Why does the doctor only have this and not share it as general information to the public?  Why do I need to listen to him 'cause I know my body better than he does.  I would like any information I can get on the subject so that I can give myself the right dosage of insulin when I need it.

Hello, Guest.  You would like to calculate your own insulin dosage based on the amount of carbs you eat?  Why are you thinking of doing this on your own?  I am not confident that it is a good idea to give yourself insulin based on what you believe you need.  Please talk to your doctor about this idea.  I understand you know your body better but he knows physiology of the human body much better.  Diabetes is and can be a very difficult disease to treat.  You may not be knowledgeable enough about how certain types of insulin work in the body for your to treat yourself.

Has anyone else attempted to self-medicate with insulin?  How did that work out for you?
