Obviously, you can break your hip at any age, but most of hip fractures occur in people older than 65 because their bones become more fragile as they grow older and loose minerals. Age immediately tells the doctor that he should look for signs of fracture. In most cases observation of the abnormal position of your hip and leg and other symptoms is enough to determine if there is fracture. An X-ray needs to be done to confirm a fracture and to show exactly what part of hip is fractured. If X-ray doesn't show a fracture but hip pain is still there, doctor can order a CT or MRI scan to look for a small hairline fracture.
