Seemingly loads of topics about eyes at the minute, thought I'd balance that out a bit LOL. Basically I am sticking with MAC lipsticks right now. They're worth the extra dough for me cos they're nice and creamy and just roll on. I've never done matte lipstick before, just the glossy ones, but I'm seeing that about quite a bit and I do think it looks awesome on the right person. So I was just wondering, anyways, whether you own any matte lipsticks and if so who they're by, and how you personally make the choice between matte and gloss.

Well, the good thing about matte finish lipsticks is that they are more highly pigmented, which absolutely means that they do last a lot longer. I saw there was a topic about exfoliating the lips running at the moment, which is relevant here as well: your lips need to look perfect if you want to pull off matte lipstick.
There is also such a thing as matte creamy finish lipstick, which is still more pigmented than the satin finish ones, but also moisturizes your lips more at the same time. I like that myself. Gloss is great if you are not planning on eating or drinking anything.

Glossy lipsticks are wonderful for when you want to highlight the volume of your lips and look glamourous and healthy. Matte lipsticks have something else. They make you look, I don't know, intriguing? I love wearing matte lipstick with "street clothes", if you like. I especially love darker colours. For a fancy night out, gloss is more the way to go.
You can never have too many lipsticks! Just add to your collection until you have the right one for every possible occasion!

I am getting ready for a Halloween party right as I write this and I am going to be a vampire lady. I am choosing a matte bright red lipstick for the occasion, and because I have already done a test run of the makeup I will be wearing, I know that matte lipstick looks absolutely 100 percent more amazing than gloss for this purpose. I'm also going to paint on fangs with white liquid eyeliner, and surely, with gloss, this would wear off in no time.

I have never, ever used matte lipstick. It simply doesn't appeal to me. I use lipsticks to make my lips shine, baby!
So, how do you choose? I don't know; you just do. Just what you personally prefer. I do think as people have already said that matte is harder to pull off, because it shows every single imperfection. So with high shine finishes, those are for everyone. But mattes aren't.
What I am personally curious about is people who make their own lipsticks with eyeshadow and I think petroleum jelly? I wonder what effect you'd get with that, what finish it has? If anyone knows please share.
