So I'm 20 in Massachusetts for Freshman milers, and #7 in my division for the very same, and if I can get my time down by 5.97 seconds, assuming the #4 guy doesn't improve drastically, I'll take his spot. I ran a 5:17:97 about two weeks ago, and in 13 days, I have another meet.
I will try literally anything at least once. But I could use some after-practice work out plans, exercises, pre-meet superstitions... ANYTHING. I won't be devastated if they don't work, but it would be nice. I know I have the potential, and a solid 13 days.
My coach would always have us do tabata exercises on hills. Its pretty short, but it hits your cardio really hard, and if cardio is what is troubling you, then this is definitely something you should do (if not, I don't know, sorry)

Find a decently steep hill,
8 x :20 all out, :10 easy
2 minute rest
Repeat for a total of 3 times. If the hill isn't long enough for you do 8 rounds, do as many that will get you to the top, sprint down, and continue. This works your quads too, so its great for cross country runners
