I will ask for one of those posts. What state are you in, I would like to hear some names of Drs. who do listen to their patients and don't think we are all hysterical women with IBS. Also what is the treatment now that you have a diagnosis?

I have to have a sigmoid resection, sigmoidectomy. I am in San Diego. I was operated on at a mil hospital here and am now receiving my care at UCSD. UCSD is where they did my sitting up defecography xray. My imaging is quite astonishing. I don't want to violate any rules, maybe if you're registered you could message me? Or friend me? Lol

Yes I have also had problems with my bowels and constant bloating, lower pain. Just have not felt right since I had a full hysterectomy back in 2009. I have no insurance at this time so I have not seen a Docotor but an looking into talking to some legal people to see what I can do.

I had my surgery Sept 2011.  Just yesterday for about 9 hrs I was in pain. My left side. I too had sharp twisting pains.  Bloating...  My bowels have been way different since my surgery.   Before yesterday, I have had dull cramping pains before since the surgery.  Yesterday was just the worst.  I almost went to the ER. I never thought about the surgery being a part of these pains until I typed in "bowels after hysto" and it pulled this up.  My husband did lots of online research lastnight...but never thought of typing in hysto causes.  I probably should make an appt with my dr who did the surgery.  Any advice?

I had a hysterectomy 03 April 2013. Uterus removed and I left my ovaries. Since my op I feel bloated, and my stomach works about three times a day! It seems I cant keep my food in, then I get a sensation to go to the toilet. I went for my check up this week, and doctor told me that my intestines will move in the space where my uterus was! I hope that it is still early days for me, because I would honestly hate to have to go throught the rest of my life bloated, and worrying about my intestines! From what I read from these posts, it seems like we all have the same problem.

I have a situation as well, not sure what to do as I am in pain for the past couple of weeks, let me first say that I had a hysterectomy back in 2005 as well leaving one ovary which always gets cists on it, but i want to keep my ovary as long as i can for hormones sake, I am 45 years old. I was diagnosed in 2011 with severe anxiety disorder, panic disorder, depression, agoraphobia and adjustment disorder all due from stress from my job and now live on disability.

I have been having bowel issues as well, they have been light brown in color and not to be gross or anything but it also comes out like soft serve ice cream. I am constantly passing gas. There are times when I go a couple of days without going to the bathroom and I get such severe lower back pain that I cannot even move and spend my days on the couch with a heat pad. For the past couple of weeks, I have had cramps in my abdomen on both sides, the right side has no ovary and the pain was so severe one day i thought i was passing a kidney stone even though i have never had one before, it hurt so bad i started to sweat and get very tired, i put a heat pad on me and it eventually went away. But now I have cramps all the time on both sides of my abdomen. I have read several articals stating that several years after a hysterectomy your body can have ghost cramps, then i read it can be menopausal symptoms, it can be gas pains, or one article even stated it can be scar tissue that has to be removed surgically and be seen by OBGYN right away. I just want to know what it is, if anyone knows I would appreciate any info. Right now my husband and I have moved to a different state for a new job and health insurance does not kick in for another month so I cant go see a doctor.

Because of my anxiety I am affraid to mix any meds with my current meds and I dont take pain killers anymore not even an aspirin. I am not able to take any NSAID drugs because of GERD, I also have fibromyalgia and RA. So as you can see I am one hot mess. LOL

Please if there is anyone out there that can offer any advice I would appreciate it. Thank You.

when I had my hysterectomy, i made sure i listened to everything my doc told me NOT to do, do not think your healing because you feel better, take time and do what doc tells you to do. you will heal faster and better. I did not have problems with my intestines, but doc did say stuff would move around, I would keep an eye on this situation that you have , hopefully your intestines did not get tangled during surgery. Good luck with your recovery and take care of yourself.

have doctor check for scar tissue, my OBGYN had to remove scar tissue at my appt, it was causing cramping, also have her check your ovaries if you have them left, I have one left and it works harder since there is only one, it tends to inflate with blood fill and often has cists which also causes pain. good luck. heat pad on abdomen works well too.

I had my hysterectomy in Aug 2012.  I have having swelling up to my breast, fevers off and on. As I get bigger as the day goes on my BP goes through the roof.  I keep getting sent in circles from doc to doc.  I have been 2 ER twice had 2 CT's  one with contrast. X-ray,ultra sounds, upper and lower scopes. Seen Internal medicine doc, GI doc,OB Doc, General surgeon. I have been having problems with my GI stuff Lot of constipation.  Taking fiber every day, myral lax, colace, kiefer and still no hope.  Both times to ER, they thought I was there to have a baby.  By end of the day I look 7 or 8 months pregnant, painful short of breath because it pushes on my diaphragm.  I just want answers tired of being sick.  Hope you are doing better.

I'm so glad that you ladies have shared your experiences, I went to see my doctor today he informed me I needed a hysterectomy but after reading these post I rather deal with the issues I have than go through what you ladies have shared!!! I pray that you all find comfort and I also feel they should be more forthcoming with the sed effects than they are!!

It sounds like maybe you have a hernia. I'd have that checked out.

Yamika,

I'm glad you found this forum and decided against hysterectomy. It's SO overused (76% don't even meet ACOG's criteria). It causes so much damage to the anatomy (internal and external). And even if the ovaries are kept, a lot of times they stop working or don't work properly. Any procedure that alters the functioning of the "reproductive" system (it's really for much more than reproduction and sexuality) can cause permanent health and quality of life problems. These include hysterectomy, ovary removal (one or both), ablation, tubal ligation. cervical treatments (e.g., conization, LEEP). So it's critical that we all do our research and understand our diagnosis, ALL treatment options along with their pros and cons. Best to you in improving whatever problem caused you to consider hysterectomy.

I have been diagnosed with IBS and yes I have run into problems with my bowel since a partial hysterectomy, my uterus was removed. I have been treated like a hysterical women with an agenda, a straight answer would be nice. But eating excessive fiber and taking miralax is not the answer. Have you considered being assessed for abdominal repair?
