They are definitely bird mites. I just finished getting rid of them. First let me say do NOT go to places like birdmites.org sites like these profit from the pest control industry and are not truthful. Look up entomology sites and look for current research. It seems this is a new very hardy strain of mites. I moved from my infested apartment a few months ago after spending so much money on chemicals etc. I got rid of all my furniture and took only essentials with me and put everything else in a POD. Should do the trick right? NOPE Let me tell you why. These mites have seemed to adapted to feeding for quite some time off humans and I finally found where they were at.....MY HAIR! I happened to have just gotten some reading glasses and I was cleaning my face in my magnification make up mirror while wearing them and I saw all these tiny microscopic eggs on the ends of my hair! The crawling is the juvenile stages and they also cause the pin prick biting as well as I have been very sick and it looks like the mites are to blame. Also they can transmit Rickettsia. Now on to what has gotten rid of them. First buy a mite proof mattress cover they are not very expensive this will help you sleep while you are getting rid of them. Leave your mattress inside for at least a year to be safe. Next buy eucalyptus oil and put about 8-10 drops in your hot bath water and soak. Everywhere you have been bitten will burn a bit but this will disinfect and turn all the bites red and you will be very surprised you are bitten far worse than you originally thought. Also doing this was a good way to keep a visual record of the bites as they diminish and help keep you sane in seeing the progress. The oil is a repellent. You can also use cedar, lavender, tea tree and clove as a repellent. I rubbed some into my scalp to help. Also shaving all body hair helped me with the crawling as well. Now the hair is the big problem because this is where they are living. Buy yourself moth balls the ones that come in little packets or buy crushed and make your own packets. Then pile up your dry hair on top of your head and put the packets on top(NOT AGAINST YOUR SCALP) and wrap your head tight with saran wrap and leave on overnight. This fumigates them. I went above and beyond and did this every couple of nights for a week. I was beginning to think I would never get a handle on them and suddenly over a period of about three days all the crawling and biting have stopped and all the eggs are gone. I wish I had taken the time to do the research before I spent hundreds on chemicals and prescriptions that didn't work when for less than $100 I got rid of them for good! I hope this is able to help those dealing with this same nightmare.

i have this too.
started about 2 years ago.
i think i got it when i went to get a massage at a spa. their sheets were very itchy. was itching for days after that. then a few weeks later, i noticed some sort of larvae/cocoon on the bunk above me. they looked like household casebearer. at this time, i had bite marks. some red marks and some bites would bulge for a few minutes like mosquito bites but are shaped differently. so I cleaned. the bites were significantly less but they were still there. bought a steamer and steam cleaned the room, didnt work. sprayed alcohol and dishwashing liquid, still there. sprinkled DE below my bed and it seemed to have helped. but I dont know how to apply DE on ceilings and other hard to reach areas. Also, before I discovered DE, I used pesticides you can buy in the grocery, that's when I got the worst bites. They were very active that night when I sprayed insecticides.

I am not delusional because I noticed that people at work also started to itch. Also, when I was in a plane, the person beside me was itching like crazy and he was looking at me like it was my fault. Didn't say anything though. Too scared.

What didn't work for me
-borax (i soaked my clothes in borax and water for a day but they were still there)
-white vinegar (at first i thought it worked, i had one day where i didnt feel anything crawling on my jeans, but after a few times doing it, they were there again.
-ariel laundry powder (seems to work a bit but not that effective)
-glass cleaner with ammonia as main ingredient (sprayed the floors but they were so active)
-ironed clothes to a point of burning them but they were still crawling after
-soaked clothes in boiled water but still survived.
-sulfur soap on my body

head and shoulders menthol shampoo seemed to have worked but not entirely
also, it is very important not to wear clothes twice. Just wear clothes once and wash them. I still soak my clothes in Ariel even though they are not that effective.

Also used bleach and lysol for the environment. I know lysol was not effective. Not so sure about bleach. But bleach made me really sick.

Right now, they are significantly less. But they are still there. Im still itching like crazy. Most of the time I don't have bite marks anymore but they still itch and they still crawl.

The things that crawl on me, I cant see them. What I can see in my environment are something that looks like household casebearers, or cloth moth larvae. Also saw really tiny things that looked like really really small ants about 1-2 mm and crawl really fast. Another thing I saw was a clear/transparent bug thing with few legs. It was about 3 mm. Saw these things on the mat so I threw it out. Also seeing a big moth inside the house about 2 inches in height. No idea about the wingspan. So I'm really thinking that this is cloth moth/household casebearer. They look different in the different stages of their lives/life cycle.

I can say that the bites are less but I think it got worse because I can feel them on my hair and scalp now. Also, my ears and eyes feel weird. My ears feel like there is something stuck on them and is itchy most times.

So if you know what can kill them in the environment and on me, please let me know.

Also, thinking of moving. If you can give me tips, that would be good. I can get rid of most of my things. But cannot get rid of some really important documents.

Cleaning is very time consuming and frustrating and oftentimes I get depressed after because these bugs just won't go away.

This is exactly what happened to me! There was a nest in the eve of my roof and the mites crawled down to my window. Peppermint oil helped too. And tons of vacuuming.

The bites she did get were described exactly the way I feel them and looked almost the same . One other person says he could tell people beside him were disturbed by his being near them . What about neem oil did anyone ever try it . I know it's a very powerful natural insecticide and mitacide it believe !!
