i have this too.
started about 2 years ago.
i think i got it when i went to get a massage at a spa. their sheets were very itchy. was itching for days after that. then a few weeks later, i noticed some sort of larvae/cocoon on the bunk above me. they looked like household casebearer. at this time, i had bite marks. some red marks and some bites would bulge for a few minutes like mosquito bites but are shaped differently. so I cleaned. the bites were significantly less but they were still there. bought a steamer and steam cleaned the room, didnt work. sprayed alcohol and dishwashing liquid, still there. sprinkled DE below my bed and it seemed to have helped. but I dont know how to apply DE on ceilings and other hard to reach areas. Also, before I discovered DE, I used pesticides you can buy in the grocery, that's when I got the worst bites. They were very active that night when I sprayed insecticides.
I am not delusional because I noticed that people at work also started to itch. Also, when I was in a plane, the person beside me was itching like crazy and he was looking at me like it was my fault. Didn't say anything though. Too scared.
What didn't work for me
-borax (i soaked my clothes in borax and water for a day but they were still there)
-white vinegar (at first i thought it worked, i had one day where i didnt feel anything crawling on my jeans, but after a few times doing it, they were there again.
-ariel laundry powder (seems to work a bit but not that effective)
-glass cleaner with ammonia as main ingredient (sprayed the floors but they were so active)
-ironed clothes to a point of burning them but they were still crawling after
-soaked clothes in boiled water but still survived.
-sulfur soap on my body
head and shoulders menthol shampoo seemed to have worked but not entirely
also, it is very important not to wear clothes twice. Just wear clothes once and wash them. I still soak my clothes in Ariel even though they are not that effective.
Also used bleach and lysol for the environment. I know lysol was not effective. Not so sure about bleach. But bleach made me really sick.
Right now, they are significantly less. But they are still there. Im still itching like crazy. Most of the time I don't have bite marks anymore but they still itch and they still crawl.
The things that crawl on me, I cant see them. What I can see in my environment are something that looks like household casebearers, or cloth moth larvae. Also saw really tiny things that looked like really really small ants about 1-2 mm and crawl really fast. Another thing I saw was a clear/transparent bug thing with few legs. It was about 3 mm. Saw these things on the mat so I threw it out. Also seeing a big moth inside the house about 2 inches in height. No idea about the wingspan. So I'm really thinking that this is cloth moth/household casebearer. They look different in the different stages of their lives/life cycle.
I can say that the bites are less but I think it got worse because I can feel them on my hair and scalp now. Also, my ears and eyes feel weird. My ears feel like there is something stuck on them and is itchy most times.
So if you know what can kill them in the environment and on me, please let me know.
Also, thinking of moving. If you can give me tips, that would be good. I can get rid of most of my things. But cannot get rid of some really important documents.
Cleaning is very time consuming and frustrating and oftentimes I get depressed after because these bugs just won't go away.
