mandibular bone ;loss. most lkiely original causes?

I am terrible with regular visits and professional cleaning. maybe my own answer.

I had an ortho surgery to shorten lower jaw at time of braces installation in late teens.

lower jaw underbite. upper had deficiency due to mouth breathing from almost birth.

front of lower jaw has considerable bone loss across front fou but two center ones been hanging by the tips for about 15 years. open gap and exposed dentin. had a root canal on a tooth thirteen years ago that i didn't get capped.following temporary fill. in the last monthhad pressure and pain. then lesions on gum close by.  had to come out today.  pretty well infected.

dentist said it had no bone around it for some time. could have been sooner.

gums dont do well when bone shrinks out from under them.

i will be doing better on visits.  habve next one set.

take care

Hi, matdilon.

I will try to answer you, but I'm not certain if I understood your question correctly. If I am mistaken, sorry in advance.

It is possible that your ortho surgery could have caused the mandibular bone loss, however, it is not certain.

There are many other factors that can lead to mandibular bone loss, such as periodontal disease, trauma, or even genetic predisposition.

It is best to consult with your orthodontist or dentist to determine the exact cause of your bone loss.

Hi, again.

Have you talked with your ortho that If the bone loss is extensive, to do a bone grafting to replace the missing tissue and restore the jaw's structure?

Is that possible in your case?

Good luck!

Here are some tips for proper oral hygiene:

1. Brush & Floss Regularly: Brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice a day is essential to keeping your teeth and gums healthy. Make sure to brush your teeth for two minutes and to floss between each tooth.

2. Use a Fluoride Toothpaste: Fluoride toothpaste can help to strengthen your teeth and prevent cavities. Look for toothpaste that contains fluoride and make sure to use it twice a day.

3. Avoid Sugary & Acidic Foods: Sugary and acidic foods can damage your teeth and increase your risk of tooth decay. Limit your intake of sugary and acidic foods and drinks, and try to eat a balanced, nutritious diet.

4. Quit Smoking: Smoking can cause major damage to your teeth and gums, so quitting is essential for keeping them healthy.

5. Visit Your Dentist: A professional cleaning will remove any plaque and tartar buildup that has accumulated on your teeth, and your dentist will be able to identify any potential issues that need to be addressed.

There are several possible causes for mandibular bone loss, including poor oral hygiene, periodontal disease, trauma, and certain medical conditions. In your case, it is possible that poor oral hygiene and lack of regular dental visits contributed to the bone loss, as you mentioned. Additionally, your previous ortho surgery to shorten your lower jaw may have also played a role, as such procedures can impact the surrounding bone structure. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene and schedule regular dental visits to prevent further bone loss and other dental issues.
