Ok...so My husband and I are "Trying" to get pregnant. I have been with my husband for almost 10 years, we have gotten pregnant back when I was 23 yrs old (I am 28 now) but we were not ready at the time. I have been off of birth control for almost 5 yrs now and we were always just "careful" did the pull out method and didn't use any kind of protection. I always thought that it was funny that I didn't pregnant while doing the pull out method and also not being on birth control. So now that we are actually trying I would think that it would be a little bit easier being that I have not been on anything for so long? We have been trying for about 5 months now and they say to at least wait a year of trying before taking other actions with your doctor. Help! any feed back is most appreciated!! :-)

Hi Guest,
"They" are correct. We don't normally consider fertility issues until a year has passed without success.
If you do want to see a fertility specialist, you can expect a complete physical including blood work and an internal exam. Your husband, yes he has to go too, can expect a sperm count.
Basically, if you don't want to do that yet, calculate when you are most fertile and plan to have sex just before you approach peak fertility. You can do body basal temperature, monitor your cervical mucous, or there are ovulation test kits that you can obtain. Encourage your husband to limit his alcohol consumption, wear loose fitting underwear, and eat a healthy diet.
Good luck
