How long have you had this pain? Does it hurt down into your left ribs too? I have had this pain which gets better and worse for about five years now...I have some spinal stenosis too but I am getting a new MRI next Wednesday because my lumbar and cervical spine don't seem to be the reason for the pain...Also, I had my gallbladder removed last August and remained nauseated with digestive issues for months...So I don't know if all this is connected or not...I hope you get some relief soon....

I have the same problem now and have had it several times before. It turns out to be pleirisy (not sure how to spell it). But it is a form of pnemonia. I haven't been to the Dr. yet, just woke up the A>M> w/it. But they always give me anti-biotics. Hope this is helpful. It is really painful.

u sound just like me! i've been to 4 docs, including ER and an orthopedic surgeon. said it was a pinched nerve (disc c5 and 6) plus a bone spur. gave me a cortisone shot at pain site and started me on physical therapy. the therapy feels good, but pain is still there. and i've been VERY nauseaus constantly. do u have any nausea with yours?

Geeze, I've been suffering with this terrible pain under my left shoulder blade for 3 weeks now. I can't live my life. I've had 5 chiropractor visits, 8 doctors, 12 injections and NOTHING is touching this pain. Oral muscle relaxers, oral narcotic pain relievers, nothing. I even bought an electrical TENS unit and have had electrical current running all over the area for 10 days now and nothing from that either, in fact everything continues to get worse. I too am physically fit and active but now I'm almost bedridden and in terrible pain. There's no position where I can sleep without terrible pain, I can't drive, the position makes it worse, I can't sit anywhere. Standing is better. The bizarre thing is that the ONLY time it doesn't hurt is when I use it hard, like weight lifting, climbing, etc. I pay afterward, of course but this is insane. I feel like there's a knife stabbing me in the back under my shoulder blade.
Doesn't anyone out there know what this could be????
If anyone has a clue please email me

I was nauseated for five months with that pain and have some disk problems---They even removed my gallbladder after a HIDA scan showed it was low functioning, but it did nothing for the pain and nausea---Finally, they found I have slow stomach emptying and put me on drugs for acid and stomach motility..I lost 16 pounds in 5 months but have gain most of it back....

I'm three weeks into this and talked to my doctor a week ago and he put me on a muscle relaxer (Soma).  I gave that a try for a week and this past Thursday went to actually see my doc.  He decided to put me on Prednisone for 5 days (4 pills a day) to see if it helps heel what he believes to be either a torn muscle or ligament.  Says that if it doesn't help, I should then get some pictures taken to see what's going on.  I have been laying low since Thursday and taking my meds like prescribed.  I also take Vicodin when needed and at bedtime but haven't taken any all day today.  The pain in much less than it was on Wednesday, and I'm hoping by the time I'm done with the Prednisone on Tuesday morning that it will be completely gone.  Am I kidding myself?  Has anyone else tried the Prednisone?  Please let me know.  Thanks!

I'm actually replying to myself here, even though I signed in with a different name. The Prednisone DID NOT help!!!! I finished with it yesterday and honestly thought things were improving but that was because I wasn't doing a darned thing all day long and was taking vicodin for the pain. Not that I am done with the steroid and not on the vicodin today, the pain it back just like before. Guess I'm in everyone else's boat huh? Oh well - I guess it was worth a try. Guess I'd better get used to the pain cuz it appears to be here to stay.

It's a muscle spasm in your neck and between the shoulder blades. The tension from the spasm aka cramp affects.nerves near the spine. Alternate warms ads and cool, a do light exercise and stretch to get circulation flowing ...... And then lie on a tennis ball, relaxing as best possible to let body weight stretch the deeper muscles. Arms should be in the "hug myself posture" to keep body position evenly distributed. And opened into "the cross" occasionally to get deep muscle moving and uncramped. IT is a cramps so the stretch won't be comfortable. Be slow, gentle and try and relax. This will bring temporary relief. To achieve longer or permed ant relief the cramp must be rep early done, and care take not to put the body in a position where the weakened muscle. Will revert. Bed rest and continued use are the two very worst things to do, a got osteopath will add in the massage, some chiropractors might help. Have found basic physio to be utterly useless, as it doesn't work the deep tissues in the right direction.

hi i am 34 yo male. On saturday (2 days ago) i was working under the house with a respirator for a few hours doing some work, and yanking at things.. anyway i felt a really dull pain on my left side, which i've had for a while. I then was bending over to plug in some component cables to my TV and the pain came from under my left shoulder blade. Every time I breath in deep it feels like i'm getting stabbed in the shoulder, and the pain radiates to the front area around my nipple when i'm standing.  Otherwise i do not have pain when breathing less intense, or laughing or coughing.  I'm not having much luck simulating the pain with movement either.. seems like if i bend over and shrug my shoulders a certain way it will trigger the pain, but it's hard to say. Anyway it obviously has me concerned, although so far the evidence seems tso be pointing to a muscle pull. It is very intense though, so it has me concerned about it being pleurisy
