Hi, I had immunoglobulins test performed and it showed increased level of IgM, and other antibodies are at normal rates. Is it indication of beginning of an infection? Am I developing an infection without any visible signs yet?

Immunoglobulins or antibodies are substances produced by the body's immune system in response any invading agents like bacteria, viruses, or other foreign substances. They fight cancer cells as well. Antibodies mark foreign substances, so immune system cells can identify them as invaders and destroy. There are five classes of antibodies IgA, IgG, IgE, IgM and IgD. IgM antibodies are the largest type of antibody present in blood and lymph fluid. They are are the first type of antibody produced as reaction to an infection, stimmulating also other immune system cells and inducing immune response. IgM antibodies normally comprise about 5% to 10% of all the antibodies in the body. Their identification is sign of primary immune reaction, what means that body is fighting an invader for the first time.
