You are 100% wrong my friend. It is absolutely addictive.

You need to do more research on imodium. It DOES cross the BBB and most definitely is addictive.

Could not agree more. Imodium almost cost me my life. Flat lined 3 times at hospital from taking large quantities over many years. Been off it for 3 years and without the assistance of Sub would still be having withdrawal from it.

No it's not. Withdrawal can be subjective but to compare low dose loperimide use and any possible withdrawal upon cessation with a cold turkey heroin detox is a fool or a liar.

It technically crosses the BBB but is immediately escorted out by a defending protein. Loperimide does not affect the CNS.

I have posted in this thread before. I was taking over 100+ Immodium a day. I started taking it to fight IBS. I hate using public restroom. I started by taking a couple pills and went up to where I would make sure I would have to go once leaving home. I tried stopping but the withdrawal effects were so bad for 3 straight months I went back on it (I was going on a trip and couldn't go with the withdrawal effects). Fast forward 3 years and I died twice from the prolonged taking of Immodium. Luckily when I flat lined twice I was already in the hospital and they were able to bring me back. I was in the hospital because the night before my heart stopped but it started again on its own. My wife called 911. The doctors ran every test on me and could find nothing wrong. I then told them about the Immodium and they assumed it must have been that but no doctor that saw me ever heard of it before. The people in this article weren't as lucky as me. I am on low doses of Suboxone now for 3 years and feel great. For those saying they cannot afford a doctor and Suboxone it cost me $75 a month. Is your life not worth finding $75 a month? How much is the Immodium costing a month? Yes I need to slowly comee off of Suboxone but will under supervision. The only part I disagree with in article is I never once got high off the large dose of generic Immodium. And I've never done other recreational drugs in my life so I would have known if I received a high effect. http://www.syracuse.com/health/index.ssf/2018/02/as_anti-diarrhea_drug_overdoses_soar_upstate_poison_center_applauds_crackdown_by.html

I only ever took 16mg of Lope at a time but continued doing it well after the suboxone WD was gone and are now just trying to kick the Lope the first few days where easy no symptoms apart from lack of sleep but now 6 days in to no Lope the WD is intensifing is this normal there is not much info on Lope withdrawl around and the time line so any info you can share would be awesome! Hope your doing well and where able to get healthy and stay healthy Cheers

I know your post is a year old...but ME TOO!!! I started taking Imodium a year ago to get off of suboxone, having no idea what I’d be in for from these damn Imodium pills. So glad I found someone else that went through/is going through the same.

I know your post is old, but just in case this helps someone.... I’m on day 20 of cold turkey lope withdrawal. The cold & hot flashes are gone. I can sleep for 6-8 hours without difficulty. However, the explosive pure liquid acid diarrhea is still constant. My god I hope it stops soon. I thought I was getting better but then it got worse again.

Hello
I'm new here. Am withdrawing from imodium and fell awful.
Having been through opiate withdrawal more times than I care to admit and that's how I feel coming off this Imodium now.
I've taken it for years (have IBS) and have built a tolerance and it no longer works for me... So, rather than increasing my dose again, I just 'cold turkey' quit 4 or 5 days ago.
Have been reading in here what others are doing about their addiction to Imodium... and now know that cold turkey is not the way to go. Thank you for all the information. Each and every comment helped me see that I need to taper off the Imodium slowly.
I'm going to try and get off as many Rd meds as I can. Learning that we truly are 'what we eat'. Want to deal with all of my health issues by eating healthy foods that will help with different problems that I have.

I believe that Big Pharma does NOT have our wellbeing as their priority... I think its about them making money and LOTS of it.

Hello,
Hope you got off the suboxone... the doc kept me on Suboxone for about 1.5 years! The Suboxone withdrawal was worse than the original withdrawal from vicodin. Later, I found out that Suboxone is only supposed to be used for a few days to get over the worst part of the Vicodin withdrawal. That Suboxone withdrawal was hell! Good luck.

It’s very addictive and causes heart problems over a long period of time. Go to the opiate addictive forums and see hundreds of people using Imodium for withdrawal from any and every type of opiate. I’ve done it myself and it’s no joke. Do not take it for more than 5 days or the addiction starts and you will be stuck on it until you make the decision to stop, which is like detoxing from Morphine.
