Hello.
If you have a red urethra on one side with severe pain that is worsening despite taking antibiotics, it's important to follow up with your healthcare provider as soon as possible. While a negative STD test is reassuring, there could be other causes for your symptoms, such as a urinary tract infection, prostatitis, or a urinary stone.
Your healthcare provider may need to do further testing, such as a urine culture or ultrasound, to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. They may also consider referring you to a specialist, such as a urologist, for further evaluation and management.
In the meantime, you can try some self-care measures to help alleviate your symptoms. These may include:
1. Drinking plenty of water to help flush out any potential infection or irritants in the urinary tract.
2. Avoiding irritants, such as caffeine and alcohol, that can irritate the urinary tract and worsen symptoms.
3. Applying a warm compress to the area to help reduce inflammation and pain.
4. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, as directed by your doctor.
It's important to continue to follow your healthcare provider's instructions and attend all follow-up appointments to ensure that you receive proper treatment and management for your symptoms.

I found this thread and it honestly saved me. For over a year, i have dealt with a red irritated meatus opening that seemed to be way worse when i went to bed at night. To make matters worse, my urethra felt as though there was a consistent itch/irritation/no way to describe the feeling. I was tested three times for every STD, performed 3-4 urine cultures, cystoscopy, ultrasound, you name it. Urgent clinic, primary doctor, two seperate urologist. The prescribed me Levo, z-pack, cipro, doxy for uti and std over the course of 6 months.. nothing worked. They then tried the balantitis creams and Fluconozole… nothing worked so they said it was pelvic floor muscles and to wait 6 months for things to heal.. i disagreed since my symptoms started and never changed 5 days after a sexual encounter…but had no where to go and waited 6 months. Fast forward to today and i requested to be put on Cephalexin. After 7 days, it relieved 80% of my symptoms… my new girlfriend then had a culture and tested positive for strep b… apparently balantitis can be caused by more than just yeast and had my doctors gave me any penicillin based antibiotic, my situation would have been resolved within days. When i asked my doctor why we didnt try a penicillin initially he stuttered and said these things are tough to diagnose.. i personally feel both of the urologist i consulted were negligent but ive moved on. I hope this helps someone. I am now taking amphicilin and my symptoms are 90% gone.

Update to this - basic penicillin resolved all of my issues. An advance, highly sensitive swab that a derm finally requested detected the strep b.

Hi, I got my symptoms 14 days after oral sex. I was taking Augmentin previous to this and my symptoms appeared on the last day of my Augmentin antibiotic which is a penicillin antibiotic. Does anyone know if Augmentan is not sensitive to to Strep B. I feel like it should be…

Was it an injection of penicillin or an a particular antibiotic? Thank you, glad your issue is resolved.

This thread is very buried in the internet, but it has been very helpful. I have been struggling with this for 3 months. I received oral sex and had gotten gonorrhea I received a shot and the symptom for gonorrhea went away but was left with an irritated urethra. I took the test 3 times every time it came back negatives for all STD. I even did the test for Mycoplasma genitalium at separate clinic and it also came back negative. I was given fluconazole and ketoconazole for balanitis. Did not help. Then I was given doxycycline for urine infection also did not help. I requested Cephalexin as other did and it did seem to help but was not the complete solution. I was referred to a urologist and he was the least amount of help. He said it looks perfectly fine to him and perhaps I should consider taking doxycycline for a month. I left disappointed. I did speak with my primary doctor and asked for amphicillin in case it is Step B as another user had results with it. I hope this take care of it. It has been stressful you can't even jack off because it seems to make it worse. And you don't want to get with anyone because of the slight change you can spread it to someone else. One really bad blow job got in this situation. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through this..
