Hi! I am a 15 year old female with protein in my urine. Let me start from the beginning. About 1 1/2 years ago, I started holding in my pee for pleasure. I got this sensation when holding in my pee that was really awesome. I continued to do this for the past 1 1/2 years, i would do this pretty often, almost everyday for the first 6-9 months (not every time I went to the bathroom), I then started doing it only a few times a week, this became a little less, and now I haven't done it in about a month. I had 3 UTIs (that I know of) and not a lot of pain. I have chronic constipation (and a doctor recently diagnosed me with IBS-C). My doctor told me I was getting UTIs because of my constipation, but I wondered if they were caused by me holding in my pee. I never told anyone about me holding in my pee like this, and I still to this day haven't. I would hold in my pee for so long that I would most of the time either A. Pee on myself or B. Strain to make the pee come out... I went to the doctor recently for abdomen pain, which is how I got diagnosed with IBS-C, but I also got a routine blood work and urine analysis done. Along with that my doctor wanted me to get an abdomen and pelvic ultrasound. My results of my blood work came back fine, except for my CO2 was low, which my doctor said could be due to dehydration. The BIGGEST issue tho is that I had too much protein in my urine. Also, about my blood work, I was even diagnosed with iron- definitely anemia a little less than a year ago, and my results from that even came back normal, meaning I was no longer anemic. It was thought that I was anemic in the first place due to heavy periods that I get. Anyway, my results of both ultrasounds came back normal... I then did a 24- hour urine test to see if their was still protein in my urine, and their was... my doctor wants me to go see kidney doctor (can't think of what they're called, sorry!) I am scheduled to see one in about a week. Another important thing I should mention is that I DO NOT drink enough water. I have tried to up the amount ever since I was told I had protein in my urine... but I still only drink about 6 cups a day, and before I would only drink one or two. Also, my grandmother has polysistic kidney disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. My dad also has high blood pressure. I have not been diagnosed with diabetes or high blood pressure though. Lastly, I am a BIG worrier.. and my doctor knows this... I am 15 and worry about every illness I could possibly have or contract.. and I should also mention my doctor was not really concerned... she wants me to see a kidney doctor (still can't think of the name) to ease my mind. Okay, sorry to who ever reads this, my brain is trying to think of everything... I should also mention my GFR was 109 in October of 2016 and 133.3 in July of 2017... so it has gone up, but honestly, I don't know what it's suppose to be... again, I'm 15 and also 5'5... Now, I have two questions: 1. What do you think a kidney doctor will do for me? Considering I had an ultrasound already and 2. My biggest question: was the holding in of my pee for 1 1/2 years what caused the protein in my urine... does anyone think this could have lead to kidney damage?? (sorry, another thought came in, I also was on antibiotics (doxycycline) for acne from March-May of 2017, so if I had a UTI or something, it was probably cleared... thanks in advance!!)
